Help Fuel Tank Cap Stucked

    Hi Guys,

    Having a serious problem with my CB250F. I just can't open the fuel tank cap. It was raining here so I thought it'd be just some water drops caused the issue but seems like its totally stucked. Have no idea what to do and totally frustrated. Last time it was difficult to open at the station but managed to open it quickly so I didn't even check for any problem. This time its completely not responsive. I tried with a newly made key too. Any one had a similar experience before? please share thoughts.

    Press down on the cap as u turn the key ... it will take the pressure off the latch

    Spray WD40 or something similar down the key hole

    I concur with @GreyImport, whatever you do...don't force the key as it will snap.
    Try WD40 or Inox as they should assist in opening the tank cap.
    Once you have it opened spray the lock from the under side and keep turning the key whilst you do it.
    This allows WD40 to get in where it is needed. Good luck.

    WD40 and a jiggle up and down with the key inside the lock should help loosen the pins and get it open. Other good advice has been given :)

    Once you've got it open I'd take the back off and give it a clean out, I think it's just a couple of screws (assuming your bike is similar to mine).

    After you use WD-40 you could spray carb cleaner or brake cleaner to remove all residue because the WD-40 becomes sticky after a while. Even worse on a tank lock where it doesn't drain out much.

    Think Inox would be a better option.

    I was looking at the availability of such products .... I havnt been to Sri Lanka but I dont think there would be a Supercheap down the local corner :D

    Possibly heating it up with a heat gun might help.

    I just pulled my apart....not sure I would use heat as there are some plastics bit within, melting those would not be good.
    I sprayed Inox on all parts and all is well. :thumb_ups:
    Think I'm going to stop reading posting on this site :lolsign: lately I run out and check my bike...fuel cap just now, last week it was the greasing the rear suspension.....where does it stop :oops:
    All jokes aside it's good to check and be sure....does away with the "out of sight...out of mind" syndrome. :D Take it easy.

    Is there much plastic parts inside the locks? I drilled out the lock on my bike (key fell out of the ignition when I riding) and found nothing but metal! Nonetheless, I'm not actually super anal with maintenance. I just tell people good ideas and do my stuff when it's absolutely required. I don't think I have a "out of sight" mentality, more so a "she'll be right" attitude haha
