is there anyone here (I'm guessing only in the southern states) that has/ is using heated grips? The 5:30am commutes at 4deg on the postie bike is starting to get the better of me. Rest of my body is fine it's just the wind on the fingers. Can't feel them after about 20min. Was looking at something like "Oxford Hot Grips"
I have never used them, do you have decent winter glove's ? Another cheap option is hand guard's, stop the cold air from directly hitting your glove's eg http://www.aliexpress.com/item/free..._6&btsid=48b53910-d258-4ca5-b187-3bdad1efd6c8
I used to live in Bathurst where it got really cold (up to low negatives on some days) and honestly the oxford grips barely had any effect. I even got to the stage where I was wearing a liner inside my winter gloves, using the hotgrips AND barkbusters and still feeling it on my finger tips... If you're only at 4 degrees or so maybe try some decent winter gloves as has been suggested... you may need to look outside of Oz to find good ones though.

I recently bought a set of Oxford Hot Grips from slipsteam performance. Should have them this week. I do night shifts, it gets to zero or very close when I finish around midnight.
I have a set of hand guards on there way to me. As @joker said I can't see the grips having that much effect. Can't see them getting warm enough to have any effect through gloves. Will be interested to hear how you find them @Linkin. I'm going to the UK for a holiday at the end of the year so might pick up some gloves when I'm over there.
Don't get me wrong the heated grips work VERY well on your palms through the gloves. But you will struggle to get your fingertips warm and that's where I always felt the cold. Unless you ride like you have permanent arthritis.
I have them on both my 650 Dominator (with the hand shields) and my Royal Enfield 500 (no shields) and they definately help to keep my hands warm. They actually work better with thinner gloves (more heat transfer), but still get heat through thicker winter gloves. It helps as I have "permanent arthritis" in both hands.
Got to use them this morning heading to Aldi to try and get some of the bike gear before the horde of people get everything. Thier lawnmowers are ever popular. I got the leather pants, a merino top (finally, missed out the past 2 years) and more socks. The oxford grips work very well on the 100% setting while wearing my summer gloves. They'd be more effective on a bike with full fairings. Might try and get some bark busters or similar fitted to the handlebars as wind guards. Oh, and when gluing the grips on... 2 things. Make sure you don't get superglue inside the throttle tube... and if you do, sandpaper will remove it in a jiffy When the instructions say "let the glue set for 24 hours before using the heated grips" they're not joking. The glue will melt and you'll have to do it all over again. They have to be glued on as the heating elements mean they aren't an inteference fit like regular grips.
These are the ones I used on my Enfield. http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Motorcyc...rmers-Black-/282115488431?hash=item41af64baaf
