Winton is one track I don't like going to. It's expensive, a long drive & basically nowhere. Since I missed The Island Classic, I would probably go to this except it's the same weekend as Gunnedah drags.
Winton in Qld is a long drive and nowhere (I know, I used to live out there). You'll go to Gunnedah, but Winton (vic) is a long drive? I got the impression it is a nice track to race on, not so great otherwise. But it gets a few events, including a V8 round. Haven't been to an event there, though. Interested to know people's experiences.
Haha... isnt Winton Qld known for Cloud Seeding? If so they are not doing a good job right now as there has been no rain to speak of. Winton Victoria is a bit like Winton Qld...in that other than the race track there is no other reason to go there.. As a circuit it would be OK I guess.. lots of corners and a shortish straight.. Its one of those places that in Summer it is stiflingly hot and in Winter it is bitterly cold.. It is a great circuit for spectating as you can back your car right up to the fence... plenty of people go to the V8 race and camp.. I have seen trucks driven in with lounge chairs etc on them... so it is a bit of an old fashioned circuit like Oran Park used to be... Warwick Farm etc.
Depends where you are at Winton Qld, some got 3 inches of rain this month, others got 28 inches (700mm). They might have had less than 5 inches over the previous 3 years, though. And I can't say I heard of cloud seeding out there; doubt there would be enough moisture. They do get some mileage out of Waltzing Matilda and their biannual outback festival - the town can double or triple for some of these events. Oops.
Hmmm just something in the back of my head about Cloud Seeding when I went through Winton as part of a 17 day Central Australian School Trip... there were a few firsts for a 14 year old lad over those 17 days
went to winton in victoria in the late 70,s and saw harry firth racing a 1934 mg supercharged and also riding a 1926 harley with side boards.he was caning the bejesus out of them. wish it was closer and would be down for that historic meet.even saw an A model collapse its spoke front wheel on a corner.. only so much money and so many things to do. next trip is to the national art gallery.lol.
If I'm competing and catching up with friends, then yes I'll go to Gunnedah, but that's pretty much my limit.
