I heard this ticking sound yesterday when I started my bike to go for a run around town. On my way back home, my bike died about 100m away from my house, and wouldn't start afterward.

I'm still running on 3 cylinders with dodgy front brakes.

Sounds to me like I've run out of fuel. Don't think it's the battery because it's still going strong.

Yeah sound's like the fuel pump, might just be the recording but sound's louder than normal too
It should turn off about 3 or 4 second's after the ignition key is turn on, it fill's the fuel bowl's till the needle and seat's shut off.
With fuel in your tank, the pump may only come on and tick for a second or so if it's recently been running

This is the first time I've heard the ticking, and I should still have about half a tank of fuel left.

I've been topping it up with regular 91 unleaded every 100km or so. I haven't even done 70km since the last fuel stop.

My bike started and ran relatively ok before yesterday, and with no ticking sound either.

Maybe check you fuel line's for kink's or a blocked fuel filter, either before the pump or the one inside the tank
Fuel tap could be blocked up too ?

I always run my bike on reserve. Gets to a certain height just above the reserve in the tank and it will start boggingaround corners or up hills if the petcocks set to on. This has happened to me before n it just took me a while to start it as the carbs were deprived of fuel. Another good way i found is push starting it in this state, saves the starter thats for sure. Another way to find out if petrol is going to the carbs n the lines not kinked is to unhook the fuel pump line on the carb end and see if the petrol comes out The when you turn your ignition on/not actual start it up. The fuel pump is definitely working from the ticking it makes thats just standard. Let us know how it all goes

I managed to get off work early today, so I had time to have a look at what could be wrong.

First place I looked was in the tank to see if it still had fuel. It was completely empty.

I poured some fuel into the tank from a fuel container until the reserve straw was submerged, then I flicked the kill switch on and off a couple times until the ticking sound stopped, then tried to start the bike. After about 15 seconds, the bike coughed to life.

I then proceeded to ride to the petrol station and put about 9.5L of 91, and came back home. The bike ran fine considering it still needs a lot of work done to it.
Must'nt've got it warm enough for cylinder 4 to loose spark
