The latest in my motorcycle learning experiences, I've lost the one and only key which came with the bike. Been quoted $70 to cut a new key from the barrel but I need to take it out of the bike first. Any tips on removing the ignition barrel? Or would the seat lock suffice? Going to look pretty dodging doing all of this out the front of work where it's parked (next to the police beat) haha
You will need the whole ignition, as the seat lock barrel is way shorter $70 is about right Take the top clamp in, it's easier Get a 2nd key cut
Well if this wasn't a public service announcement to get myself a spare key cut before I lose it, I dunno what is!
Having trouble getting the top clamp off, I've managed to get the handlebars and steering head bearing off (although put it back on for now so I don't lose it). I'm wondering which bolts are next to complete the removal? Then I just need to figure out unhooking the wiring. Is it the large heads on top of either fork or the smaller ones next to it to get the clamp off? I got both the larger ones off which released the suspension and still didn't allow the clamp to come off. Got to love these learning experiences haha
loosen the 2 allen key bolts holding the top clamp to the forks, undo the big bolt as shown in red, then use a flatblade where the blue arrow is to lift the whole top clamp off
Cheers heaps @kiffsta! Considering this will mean leaving the bike with exposed suspension outside work, I'm getting it picked up tomorrow so it can at least sit in a workshop whilst I get the key cut. Doesn't want to stand up without the top clamp on.
This is why I recently had keys cut for 3 of my bikes - they were the ones with only a single key! Considering one of them is my daily commuter, I can't afford to not have a key.
