Discussion Motorcycle Storage Problems

I was wondering how do people store their bikes?

I have always had mine outside under a waterproof cover since I had no space in the garage but I wonder what other people do and if people in cold places store their bikes for the colder months and only ride in the warmer months? Do you struggle to fit your bikes and cars in the garage? Do you have to compromise?

That is good. I am looking into whether it is worth designing a product that easily raises the bike off the ground in a garage leaving storage space underneath for car bonnets or other junk.

I know there are lots of products out there but my assignment group members like the idea so Im just looking to see if there is any sort of desire for it

 

Well, i'm one of those crazy guys that live in a cold place during the winter. Storage for me is nearly the same all year around. Commercial carpet was laid in the garage over the concrete ( a lot warmer and a lot less dust) , bike gets covered over with a indoor bike cover made by a place called Dust Off covers in the UK ( Well made and a good guy to deal with , he also makes out door covers ) , and when the winter hit's i'll get the cotton bed sheets out to help keep the bike nice and cosy at night (note: must supply a pillow ). Just had a wooden bike stand made to suit this bike and it's now the bike is way off the ground and all of my parts / lawn mower etc are stored underneath the stand , so it's nice and neat how i like things. Hi Milt94 , Have you thought about using one of these below ? , made something similar over twenty years ago when i had my big road bikes , you can place your bike hard up against the wall for maximum storage in the garage. I'f my bike wouldn't fit into the shed , i'd put it inside the house , have done this before for many years. I wouldn't like my bike to be stored outside in the weather , especially during the winter. Once had two large road bikes and a car in a single garage , was tight though.

 

Milt94, did you ever go ahead with the bike storage space idea. I am currently looking in to creating a storage space product and wondering if it is already out there and I am wasting my time????

 

I bought a Lift King 9XL four post car hoist. It will lift 4 tonnes and give 2 meters head room.
The middle was filled in with removable plywood panels.
All my bikes can fit on top and then it is raised and the car fits underneath.
I have a mezzanine behind it and so it can also be used to raise stuff up to mezzanine level.

 

Thanks mboddy, sounds like a good system....may have to get back to the drawing board!
