My 1989 3LN1 has a mounting grommet on each side of the fuel tank, where the seat fairing meets the tank. However there are no mounting pins on the fairing, so what are the grommets on the tank for?
Grommet is just there for the cowling to rest on as far as I know ..... from what Ive experienced in the past , if everything (as in all the seat cowling etc) fits like it did from factory (which it doesnt always) that corner presses up against the tank edge where that grommet is ... which Im guessing would explain the marks on your tank there Maybe the Yamaha Engineering and Design Team got into the Sake cabinet a bit early that work day A plug/mount at that spot would seem a logical choice
I always assumed there's supposed to be a second set of mounting lugs there but to this day I have never seen an FZR that still had them present.
I have 101 of those panels .... theres no lug there and never was .... they all have a mark there where they have rubbed on that grommet over time They also all have that slightly raised 'square' in that area which must just be from the mould when they are pressed or wateva
Right here is where the lug should be. Snapped clean off, as they all do... either poor design, not enough material or age and brittleness gives you a recipe for missing lugs.
Nicely spotted .... its a tiny piss poor excuse for a tab , especially compared to the other one that clips to the frame (5) Be interesting to have a look at those China ones u bought and see if its there ... but they are packed up in a box and buried in the abyss under your old mans house
