    It's a '97 Suzuki Across.

    Every time I go to cold start the bike it floods.

    New to bikes so very much inexperienced. The previous owner recommended the following start up procedure which I've been trying to follow:

    * Choke quarter on
    * Low throttle so as not to over rev
    * Start the bike!

    Any tips on how these bikes like to be started?

    Adjust the idle circuit screws. Screw them in 1/8 of a turn each, full choke (bike completely cold overnight). If too rich then adjust another 1/8 of a turn in and try again.

    If that's not working then you need to take off the carbs and clean the jets in threebond.

    In a perfect world any bike should do this

    cold start
    choke
    no throttle
    start button
    high idle
    decrease choke till normal idle

    hot start
    no choke
    no throttle
    start button
    idle
