so now my bike wont start when it warms up, just clicks loudly from the solenoid. battery is good and it starts up fine in the morning, not sure what connections to test. also if you press the starter when the bike is running the bike shuts off, the tacho moves around as well but the solenoid just clicks.
Battery is probably just holding enough recharge overnight to start in the mornings Clicking solenoid is usually just a kaput battery Do these tests first http://2fiftycc.com/index.php?threads/how-do-i-test-my-12-volt-battery-and-charging-system.1794/
done all the battery tests its holding 13.7 drops to 12 ish when starting even with lights and and fan on it will start when cold. it started on sunday went for a ride and pulled over after a couple hours and it started up fine stopped again a couple hours later at some roadworks and it wouldn't start, luckily i was facing downhill. went out yesterday for 10 minutes to see if it would start when warmed up and it wouldnt start so i left it for afew hours and it started up.
One of my old zxrs did that, I used to have to use choke even when warm, I assume the carb seals were shot
its an A model, regulator seems fine had one go before so i know the signs. had my fair share of starting issues over the years, just recently done all vacuum related lines and its running good when it starts.
What happens when hot if you were to put a jumper lead from battery to starter terminal? If nothing maybe your starter motor has problems, if it turns then solinoid or battery connections need to be checked.
Have you tried some light "percussive maintenance" on the starter? A light tap with a broom handle or whatever you can fit between the fairing will do.
could be worn starter bushes. when hot the starter poles out by hitting magnet.solution is new bushes particularly on drive end.
i'll try this tomorrow already gave it a tap and got nothing. if it was this would the noise be coming from the starter or the relay, pretty sure the relay is making noise and not the starter.
no noise will come from the starter.if the solenoid is shottgunning get a different battery and test.
so checked the voltage again, and it was sitting at 15.5-15.9 while idleing, most likely a regulator issue?
voltage is dropping to 7 volts when the solenoid is clicking, the clicking seems intermittent as it is clicking then will start up then click again.
anyone know if the regulators are interchangeable, regulator number is sh555-12 and it seems pretty common, trying to steer away from the chinese models.
nevermind tested the starter motor relay and found the wire from the relay to the starter motor found its way to an earth, partially burnt, plastic hook is burnt aswell. taped it up and its cool, bike starts now and voltage is good. that was close.
