Hi, I have a 97 GPX and am looking at changing the oil in the fork as the front suspension seems way too soft. The best description i can offer is it sometimes feels like the front forks have been replaced with a pogo stick. Is this a job that someone with a little mechanical ability (enough to get myself into trouble anyway ;D) could do or is it a job best left to the professionals? I have the manual for the bike and in the maintenance section it does show how to drain and replace the oil. Just don't want to start something i may not be able to finish as i need the bike a few times every week to commute to work.
Hopefully its just the oil. If you do proceed, measure the length of the springs, and compare it to the owners manual tolerances, if you gogole gpx250 manual, Im sure you will find one. Springs are not very expensive, and the right rated springs would make a big difference to the handling. If your not comfortable doing it, then find a local mechanic, they should do it in less than an hour so the cost will be $80 -$100 in labour and the cost of the fork oil. Cheers Chris
