Hi Guys so I just bought myself an FZR250 from my buddy and she is in a bad state. I need advice there is spark, carbs is in okay condition swings but doesn't start. I really hope it isn't timing related. Like I said she is knackered but most of it is there. What I need: Fuel pump, Taillight, Tank Cap, New Ignition, New Tires, New Chain and Sprockets and very very very obviously paint and stickers
Might be worth trying to get it started by pouring a little fuel down each carb, then refit the filter and airbox and try firing it up You could even try spraying some Aerostart (CRC Jump Start Starting Fluid in South Africa) into the front through the airbox intake (Bit awkward to get get to though) If you take the tank off and set up a small fuel tank to gravity feed the carby's Try cranking it with full choke, no throttle if nothing 1/2 choke no throttle, 1/4 choke no throttle 1/8 choke no throttle Or lastly maybe a touch of throttle and no choke Ignition switch and key, and matching keyed tank cap is cheap off ebay etc example- http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Ignition...356704?hash=item2817d266e0:g:PYYAAOSwQNRXLyQ0 Might be able to find them cheaper too, i'm sure i have found them for around $30AU the pair Chinese Cap with key $12.85 AU http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Fuel-Gas...414450?hash=item3607c26572:g:DoQAAOSwHoFXvXKK http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Ignition...408988?hash=item2349a50d5c:g:ApAAAOSwwbdWQvgC Correct fitment front sprocket from Litetek- http://litetek.co/Sprocket_Drive_Yamaha_FZR250_3LN3.html
Thanks a lot man, I took the bike apart no sort of,decided that building cafe racers is my thing so instead of restoration I want to build the most bad ass fzr cafe on the block.(This decision is driven mostly by parts availability and the horrendous condition of the fairings)
A couple of good 3LN3 thread's here are Jokers, Linkins', Grasshoppers' and i have one for mine too plus Linkin's 3LN6 FZR250 I think your carby's need a better clean out, pilot jet is for starting and idling then is still used up just past 1/4 throttle, if that's partially blocked or somewhere through the pilot circuit then it'll be hard to start Blow compressed air into the pilot circuit on the intake side of the carb, small port and you should feel the air coming out the pilot jet hole in the bottom of the carby (with fuel bowl removed) Carefully remove mixture screw from below the bowl, with spring washer and o ring, then blow air in through the pilot (small port) on the intake side of carb again. You should feel air coming through the mixture screw hole too. Mixture screw can go back in if all is good, set them to 3 full turn's out (from gently seated) as a good starting point, warm the bike and tune the mixtures from there
I have a sneaking suspicion that I'm dealing with compression issues PO left the bike out in the rain and I'm scared water got into the motor and screwed up the rings.
I mean, was the motor left out in the elements with no spark plugs installed? If yes, then I would be concerned about debris in the combustion chamber, as well as rust. The cylinder liners are iron and will rust. This happened to me when I had a 3LN motor apart and was cleaning before reassembling. I dried off the bores and wrapped them an old pillow case. Next time I looked at them there was surface rust. If there were spark plugs in the engine when you got it, I wouldn't be worried.
Hi guys does anyone have a wiring diagram for me, my wiring is a complete mess I decide to take the bike apart and start from scratch once my CBX/CBF 250 is done. I did some sketchy photoshop work to get an idea for the fzr. I was inspired by my Buell Xb12R Firebolt(horrendous piece of shite that it is). This is my Buell I love this bike but it is the most unreliable thing on wheels ever created and that includes a stainless steel wheelbarrow with a solid wheel.
If your wiring is a mess, you can try getting a 2nd hand one from Japan, using a site like juace.com or buyee.jp . Both sites let you bid on Yahoo Japan auctions and ship items to you. I have also seen FZR fairing kits that are in the YZF-R6 shape. They require cutting of the front subframe and a 2008 R6 headlight. http://buyee.jp/item/yahoo/auction/t486406466 Here's a wiring harness. http://buyee.jp/item/yahoo/auction/p218375353
I Checked out hte R6 Replica fairings they are properly gorgeous but they are shite expensive and I'm a student so nah and i want to fix up the loom for the same reason i wouldn't call it a budget build but I have a budget to stay in.
Here in South Africa we have an abundance of 250's because our license system works like this. Learner can drive anything up to 125cc but may not lift, once over 18 you may drive any size motorcycle with a learners. but you still may not lift. So loads and loads of first time riders buy up the 250's, slap a 125 sticker on it and jump to 400's or 600's after that. The most common 250 by far is the 250 Genesis all the breakers have them and there is quite a few with 3ln's. The kids these days opt for the newer 250's like the ninja 250r and the cbr and suprisingly the Ktm duke so nearly allll the 250's have ended up at some shop as a organ donor or at someone who thinks he is Valentino Rossi and wipes himself out against a taxi(South africa has dodgy taxi's). One of many many riders taken out by this disease.
Hi guys, I believe my compression is down and out on the FZR I want to pull the motor and check the following: Valves Valve Clearance Timing Rings Sleeves(for ridges) and lastly I want to see if the valves are sealing properly. The old 'finger on the hole' method revealed that 1 and 2 have more compression than 2 and 3 or at least it feels that way to me. Can you please tell me the torque settings for top and any other guidance or pro tips will be much appreciated. Side Note: She is a 3LN3 model
Cleaned the carbs out today, Never trust the previous owner I learned that today. Last Photo is as clean as I can get them.
