G'day fellow members,I have a USA spec Honda CB125S which has a cable actuated mechanical caliper disc front brake and needless to say,it feels like I have only half a front brake I have had a close-call or two on the road with my powerless front brakes.I plan to swap-in a hydraulic caliper and master cyl. onto the front end which will require me to custom make? a left side bracket where my present mechanical caliper mounts now. I don't have access to non-USA left side mount hydro calipers but would certainly make use of what I Do have available to me here.I believe this mounting point on my left side fork is very much the same with the optional mounting holes cast into the fork leg of a Honda CG125 which comes from the factory with a small front drum brake. I will try to upload a couple pics of the caliper and mounting points on the fork leg. Do any of you have some helpful ideas for me ? thanks,Bill
That swinging caliper mount is very similar to the early 1970's CB 350/400/500/750 fours. Maybe have a look at grafting a caliper from one of those to your 3 hole mounting.
Here's another one Hello Murdo and thanks for your response,I have been considering that(that one's a bit heavy & not as high performance)and it's still going to require me to do some modification to that mount with a bracket of some type.I wonder if there's any bucket racers on here, who had at one point started racing on a CG125 and were able to find a small, lightweight little OEM caliper with dual pistons and then custom make a special bracket to mount that behind the left fork leg? I'm also considering a 2000'+ newer generation dirtbike which has a left mount front hydraulic caliper:those little calipers are lightweight and powerful. The stock disc I have is stainless steel.. and measures 5mm thick by 240mm O.D. I want to continue to use my stock forks, triples and 18" spoke wheel as they will continue to give me good 'road feel' on this lightweight little machine.
These 2 calipers are a CB350F hydraulic caliper on the left and a caliper body just like mine(CB125S)on the right. The CB350F caliper has the back portion near the spokes which is thicker and it will hit the spokes.
