Howdy. So I've recovered enough to do things to the bike. Today I drained and replaced the fuel, did an oil change and replaced the plugs. Little Intruder still wrong idle properly. It will start on full choke but the idle never climbs very high, no matter how long I wait. Touch the throttle and it dies. Once warm, it will start on full throttle without choke but after a burst of high revs, reducing the throttle and it will stall. Given this bike had been sitting for ten years or more, I figure I'll have to pull the carby and clean it. Does that sound right, or is there something else I should try first? TIA
Not the worst place to start. I'd check for air leaks as well before (and after) carb cleaning. Also if there is a fuel filter (in-line or in-tank), you may need to replace/clean it. If the petcock is vacuum operated, check its vacuum line as well for air leak/fuel in it.
Nope, pull it off and do a full and through clean, particularly the small passages in the carb body and the jets. This will be what you will find if fuel has been left in the carb.
So, is there a trick to carby screws? I removed the carby, eventually, but the screws holding it together seem very very stuck and really soft and I'm afraid I'll damage the heads if I go any harder. Just soak them in penetrant and give them 24 hours or is there something else I should be doing?
Thanks, Grey, I just realised they'll be JIS. I'll have to track some down before I go any further. Thanks for the quick reply
