got a somewhat mysterious problem with my bike. whenever i start it up, if the engine is in neutral and running below 2500ish rpm, there's a bit of a knock you can hear and feel on the lower right side of the engine. however, if you put it in gear or even just pull the clutch in, it goes away completely. any ideas?
Worn down clutch / maybe thrust bearing... possibly a transmission issue. Any clunkyness in the gearbox when you're pushing it hard, shifting at high revs?
not really, it's only really around idle, and specifically only in neutral with no clutch i'll try to pay attention on the ride to work today to see if there is any knock at high revs though. i assume theres none but i've never checked plus it'd be hard to tell over the sound and vibration of the engine
Sounds like it could be just some endfloat of the clutch shaft that is taken up when you load the bearing by pulling in the clutch. Wouldn't worry about it unless it gets really bad. Sometimes balancing the carbs smoothes the engine and helps to lessen the rattle.
