My ZXR250 C1 needs a bit of maintenance including some new clutch fibres (trying out the 6 fibre method), a new thermostat, refresh the chain tensioner assembly and perhaps install a new cam chain. The bike is almost reaching 60,000km so what else should I attend to while the bike is apart? I'm looking at potential wear items such as the clutch bearing (92045-1235), etc as I'm not yet familiar with the ins and outs of these bikes like you guys/gals are. Apologies if this has been mentioned before but there's a bonus round. Bonus round: I'll be making an order direct from Japan including some hard to get new rocker cover and clutch cover gaskets, chain tensioner guides and basically anything that's impossible to get your hands on. Anybody want in while I'm making the effort (Location: Melbourne, Australia)?
Doing the valve clearances is a good idea. I put a new cam chain in mine, but it was unneccesary. Tensioner is a good idea. I used part no. 12048-1106 which @zixxer has also used. It's the exact same part. I also want to do the clutch on my bike, please take plenty of pics and post them up if you do end up replacing it yourself. On my to do list is: Shindengen reg/rec New carby boots + vacuum lines Redo the carb balance Clutch kit On that note, a set of new carby boots was only about $100. I got a set for myself and @GreyImport not long ago. Have all the parts above but haven't had the time to do the work.
What's part of that tensioner assembly 12048-1106? I can't seem to make it out from the images but I'm assuming it includes both springs, the rods and sleeves? This'll be my first clutch change on a bike so I'll be sure to take plenty of pics and perhaps write a little piece to go with it. See how much motivation I have when i get around to doing the job Hmm... Might consider getting myself some carby boots too. Thanks for the heads up.
Doing the cam chain and tensioner is a good idea if you don't know the history of the bike, I would only do bearings , thermostat and clutch if it's needed. You will need 4 spark plug tunnel gaskets, best to replace these when you remove the rocker cover to do the cam chain. If you are doing an overseas order, I would be keen on a set of air duct tubes for a c model
Good idea @kiffsta , I totally forgot about those seals. Would they be part number 92055-1272? In my experience, cam chains aren't normally replaced within the life of the bike but there's one such individual who races them who's had one break mid race which required an engine rebuild so I thought that maybe it's a more common failure point that I thought. Bike runs super cold (never gets into the horizontal warm area) and the clutch is toast! Are you talking about the tubes that run between the carbs and the head?
Oh right! That would be part numbers 14073-1466 and 14073-1467 which together are about $70 aud to get them to Melbourne + shipping to Brissy. Might pick some up for myself too, mine are rooted!
