Hi people My name is Kobus. I'm a new member from ACT Australia. Picked up a 93' FZR 250 3LN3 the other day for $200. Bike was in a rough condition, but I am slowly getting her back to life. These bikes always appealed to me from a young age and I just had to have it!!! O and I am a sucker for projects. I don't have any picks of the bike yet. She hasn't run in 5 years and got her going just the other day. Have a few issues, but I will post to find out.
Welcome to the forum. Sound's like you may have a 3LN6 or possibly a late 3LN5 going by it being made in 1993 Have you checked the frame/engine number against the model/year chart here ? Identifying your FZR250 3LN Get some pic's up as soon as you get a chance too
Welcome... It could well be a 3LN3 as a Grey Import they state the year as when it was complianced in Australia... best to check the frame number that is stamped into the steering head rather than the plate...
@Kobus! I'm also in the ACT and have the rarer big sibling of your bike amongst my projects - a 1990 FZR400RR. I also have a few Honda 250s and a KLR650. Out of all those, only one of the Hondas is registered!
Hi all. Thank you for the warm welcomes. Sorry that I've taken so long to reply again. Life is hectic!!! lol. Ok so I've taken some photos and posted them. This is after I have done a fair bit of work on the bike. I have also posted plates and stuff to identify the model. When I received the her, she hasn't started in 5 years according to previous owner. After a bit of tinkering I got her to go a few weeks ago. I battled to get the revs up when I pull the throttle, but I got that sorted by cleaning the carbies and loosening the Exup valve. The front brake master cylinder piston thingy on the handle bars are still stuck, so no front brake atm, but rear works. Fan comes on and all electrics seems to be working. I am just having an issue with a flat spot in the mid range when just in neutral. When I ride the bike is doesn't want to rev past that flat spot at all. I've been doing a lot of reading, but I am not too sure where exactly I can go look foe the issue. I suppose it's carb related. Most probably floats, needle or air screw. I cleaned out all the jets and everything is nice and clean and clear. TechHeadFred, it is awesome to have someone close on a forum. I would love to come see all your toys at some stage. Have a great day everyone!!!!!
That plate is just the import plate, the first 3 digit's of your engine number after the 1HX will tell you which 3LN model it is And usually has the same number stamped on the right side of the head stem tube but will have 3LN in front of the number, the lot will have line's stamped over it or x's over it The fairing's have had someone oldschool do some work on, seeing as it's been spray puttied, don't see that stuff much anymore. For that flat spot, check you fuel level's, they should be around 10.5mm above the line on the fuel bowl
Thanks for the replies Beano, I am actually not going to keep the orange. It does look cool, but it is not me. I am going to spray her matt black with the vents red and cover the seat with red leather (still exploring this idea). I am also thinking of doing a fibreglass cover, rather than a pillion seat. my67xr, the spray putty is my doing. The fairing was completely messed up. I had to stitch up a bit and get rid of a lot of deep scratch marks. I first tried just going the primer route, but it wouldn't cover the deep marks. I've resprayed a few cars in the past and used that knowledge on here, lol. I unfortunately didn't take picks of the fairings before I started work on them. With regards to the flat spot, I managed to get it right once and then it went all south again. I cleaned the fuel tank before, but I obviously didn't do a good job. Yesterday I pulled the plug out at the bottom as I didn't have the right tools when the bike was standing at home. The stuff that came out there was terrible. I've poured some chemicals in there and will leave it over the weekend and give it a good flush. Then I will clean the carbies again thoroughly and see if that helps. I did check the float levels, but only did a rough gauge, so it could still be the problem. I will get on the project thread asap. Have a good one
Good to have another forum member in town, not many of us here. We'll have to go for a ride at some stage - I'll private message you my contact details. You certainly could come see the current state of my many project bikes - it might encourage me to make some progress on at least one of them!
That would be great. Thanks mate. I might be able to help with some stuff. I have an awesome workshop that I teach in. Looking forward to hear from you
Might be just the angle I too the photos from....lol. Here is some photos I use in my presentation to promote our Pre-Apprenticeship Program. But I like the lab idea!
If it is 1HX 285,000 for an example it's a 1990 3ln3 Workshop is very nice ! I love that little jet boat hanging on the wall too
Very nice workshop! I have to make do in a tin shed for the bikes or a carport that's also full of other junk if I need more space to work in...
