Hi guys just a quick question about a 1980 gsx250
When push down on the rear or bouncing on the seat there is a air release (whooshing) sound
Coming from the shocks. ( I thought they were oil dampened ?)

    1. Is that normal ?
    2. Is there a way to service these ? We have replaced the oil in the front with 15wt and they feel very good now
Or do I just buy new ones
3 if I need new ones - any recommendations?

    Thanks in advance

    Grant

If they are orig shock they will be stuffed...the noise your hearing is the oil or lack there of being pushed through tiny holes..Most of the oil prob has weeped out over the years and water dust/gunk in...The only way to check em is to remove the spring and feel how smooth the action is...
Some of the Japanese shocks are rebuild-able but getting the parts is prob near impossible
and expensive. As for replacements you could try the chinnese ones on ebay

They are ok for the price but they dont last long and I find them a tad harsh...
Im running Ikon shocks and recommend them, they look great feel great and the customer support from them is fantastic.
but they are more expensive :)

Got the shocks from jbs the ones with the nitrogen canister
They fit well and are much better than the old ones - will see how they go
The only thing we had to fit upside down as the helmut lock and pillion handle were in the way
Handle can be taken off but the mounting braket for the lock would need to be cut off
    - maybe later
Must say spoke to guys from jbs and swapped a few emails -great service indeed

they worked well till i followed grey and grasshopper on a trip back from texas. the speed was high and a causeway came up around a corner, never the same again as they leaked from the deceleration.bottommed out.showa,s lasted over 20 years.
