Has anyone seen these awesome little NZ Suzuki 250 singles in the UK or Aussie? I believe they they were sold in Aussie , They were built around the same time as the Honda CBX 250, Yam SRX 250 etc, From information I have these very lightweight bikes produced around 31 hp @ 1100 rpm. I have a frame, two engines & hope to build a Cafe Racer of these lovely little bikes.
Sold in Australia for a year only NZ250S (1986) The weird combination of wire wheels and futuristic styling (in a 1980s, Street Hawk sort of way) works surprisingly well on the NZ250, giving the bike a lithe, slim look. And with a dry weight of just 120kg it lived up to that appearance, too, managing to make the most of its 33bhp air-cooled twin. It was sold in Japan and Australia, but only for a year or so, making it rare just about everywhere today. '
These were not a twin, they were a single Cylinder high revving DOHC 4 valve engine that was very smooth & had a great torque curve over its whole RPM range, something that these days has been stuffed up by Government pollution regulations.
That was just copied and pasted, it's a single cyl with twin pipe's out the head, so 4V like the XT250 / SRX250's
I dont think any of these little runabout 250's will be worth big bucks at any stage... they just are not a "cult" bike... too few were sold and while they are a nice bike.. they really are nothing out of the box...more nostalgic for some but certainly not Iconic...
Just don't be to sure, have you ridden your little under powered 17 hp SRX 250 yet, he he, the same applies to these wonders, the power to weight ratio was even better. Look I know I'm joking, but hurry up & finish your awesome SRX 250 project, go for a brisk ride & then tell me what your thoughts are then on the bikes performance & handling etc. By the way I now have completed the top end rebuild after seizing the engine due to a sudden loss of oil pressure & now its once again running beaut. While I was about it, I resprayed the rocker cover a Lovely Gold to match the decals & wheel rim enhancements, you may say O my gosh what a way to ruin the looks, but hey I state once again everyone to his own. Cheers Mike, not the bike.
No, the NZ 250 was a single cylinder DOHC 4 valve bike producing 31 bhp @ 11000 rpm. They were only produced for a few years between 1984 -87. All of the 4 major Jap. manufacturers had their own versions of these lightweight single cylinder sports bikes, I'm sure it was an exercise to the future possibility of the customers demand for high performance lightweight bikes.
