    Hey guys,

Ive been trying to figure out why my bike has been stalling after only a minuite of riding. Starts ok with a little choke and I can ride it around for about a K, then when I slow down to take a sharp corner or to stop, with the clutch in or in neutral the bike stalls and will not start again.
I am of the opinion its flooding and therefore will not ignite, maybe stuck float or sunken float. Problem is i just changed out the float needles and housings, cleaned the carbies and running new fuel. This will be the second week off the road, the 4th or 5th time im taking off the carbies and im starting to get the sh!ts.
ANY advice at all would be great coz im getting the shakes from lack of riding...

    Fidz.

Does it then start normally after sitting for a period of time?

Sounds like its emptying the bowls and not replenishing.

Or the tank breather is blocked so a vacuum forms and stops the fuel flow.

Or the tank is full of crud restricting the fuel.

Yeah its starts normally after sitting for a while, after my ride yesterday i let it sit for a hour or so and it it started up right away.
Hmmm, so it may be the opposite of what i was thinking? Is it hard to flood a bike thats already started?
May be the empty bowls, ill have a check of the fuel flow...
    Havnt checked the tank breather...
I cleaned out the tank pretty well i think after plugging the holes in it with kneedit...

Ill be getting a new in line fuel filter for it this arvo, i got a lot of crud out of the old one before i put it back on :headbang:

Thanks for the advice Grey

When it stalls, open your tank cap and listen for a small rush of air, that will tell you if the tank breather is blocked...

Ive just rebuilt the petcock, and when I turned it to on i could see fuel flowing into the carbies through the inline fuel filter...ill double check the setting on my petcock is its not just a simple on/off config :S
But yeah I THINK the fuel flow is ok....

Hey man had the exact same problem with mine.

As Grey mentioned take the fuel tank lid off and pull it apart. There will a small hole in the bottom side of the assembly. Get a small bit of wire or a needle and check to see if it's blocked, my one was. Then take the top part of the lid off there will be a small gasket inside which channels the air through a very thin tunnel. This could also be blocked.

I know those shakes all to well! My bikes back apart again for carby rebuild.

For every 3 hours in shed i recon I'm getting 1 on the road! :commando:

    Cheers Doug.

WELL! Where should I start? Had a look at the tank breather, stuck a length of wire down it, that seemed to go out the other side pretty easily, the hose that connects onto the bottom of that breather, where is that ment to go? Coz mine has no hose :help:

Did the check for a rush of air when I open the fuel cap twice and that was fine too...

Also, the issue was fuel leaking through my carbies, into my cylinders and down into my oil and as a consequence the oil/fuel mix was spilling out of my front sprocket seal when I was on the gas. :( Im assuming that this was happening while the bike was sitting in my garage or at idle because over the last 2 weeks Ive ridden it maybe 5min all up and there was a LOT of fuel in the mix, almost a litre. I have just replaced the float needles and seats, so im assuming that the seal on them is fine, what I really need to know is HOW THE F*** CAN THIS HAPPEN!?!?!?!?!

    Please halp....

Okay, as the ZXR carbs sit at an angle on the head, I can only assume your floats are set too high so when the bike is at a stop, the floats are allowing fuel to drop into your cylinders, have a look at he manual and check your float levels.

AH the joys of owning a 20 something year old ZXR.

I had the fuel flow through on one of my cylinders as well. As mentioned def check the float levels. But also check your vacuum tap. If the tap is faulty it may be allowing fuel flow regardless of what it's set on, and if you've a lot of fuel in your tank gravity is gonna push it through any small fault in the carbies.

With the engine off the tap should not let fuel through on ON and RES. There is a plunger in the fuel tap that should be pulled back by the engine vacuum when turned on and then let the fuel through. Also don't leave it sitting on PRI (prime) because it could just flow through like that.

Right right! Ok so I came home and checked the float levels, I think they were up around 23mm! So I bent the tabs down to lower the fuel level?
Then I changed the oil and put some castrol in 10-w30 I think.
Then installed the carbies ect, but before I put the fuel tank back on I tested the petcock, it does not flow with prime facing upright, does flow alot in between with the spine going vertical and flows a little bit with rez facin upright. (Hppe you can understand that)
So far so good, 2min ride, idles sweet, accelerates well and does not stall! Fingers crossed!!!
