Hey guys, ended up buying a 1989 MC19, got it sorted, tuned, registered and been riding it for a few months now, awesome little bike, revs out nicely to 18,000rpm, seems to have plenty of torque for what it is, and i am 104kg and it still goes well. I put Metzler M5's on it, 110/70/17 and 140/70/17, i am very happy with these tyres, great in the wet. Got a braided brake line coming for the front. Wound the rear shock up. Thats about it so far.
and there is the other one.... MC19 with MC22 carbs and pod filters, boys in the shop are tuning it, will see how it goes when i get it back. I put pirelli Rosso 2's on it. It has a switch for thermo fan on LHS. Cant wait to give it a good run.
Welcome - great little bikes. Pods generally do not run at all well on CV carbs. It will be interesting to read your comparison between the two bikes.
Yeah, im keen to see if the guys can get it running properly with the pods, but otherwise i have the MC19 carbs and Airbox, can service the carbs and put them back on
so bit of an update.... my workshop guys got that red MC19 running well, was still bogging down after 16-17,000 rpm. I never liked the idea of the pods. So, i did get the original MC19 Carbs and airbox with the bike, so we are going back to original setup. So carbs stripped and ultrasonic cleaned, got a kit for carbs, new air filter, we already put new rubber manifolds on the engine. MC19 Carbs had 35/85 jet combo, went the same with kit from Xcite, although the kit comes with 90's and he also gave me the 4 x 85's as requested, so that might give my tuning guy a bit more range to tune with. That bike compression tested at 150ps every cylinder, and suspension has been mildly worked, so im keen to get this one going as good as possible. Should have a result late next week.
Update... got the red MC19 back removed MC22 carbs with pods and put back original MC19 Carbs and airbox, ultrasonic cleaned with kit put through, new air filter and tuned by my guy at the shop. He went with the 85 jets. The bike is running very.. very nicely, revs out to 18,000 well, is pulling very well down low, massive midrange as well, i am yet to compare it back to back with the grey MC19, but i got a feeling its better. This red one has 33,000km and compression tested at 150ps on every cylinder, this could be the keeper!! Was gunna sell the MC22 carbs and pods, be just my luck to have a MC22 wander into my garage if I do. The MC22 carbs are clean and were running perfectly, just never quite ran properly on the MC19. Anyways, i put new Pirelli Rosso 2's on it. Would love to take it for a decent ride if we were allowed to in Sydney. What would be next...... Fairing kit. Original 1988 J model colours, tank painted to suit. Like this below. Stay tuned
I even apologised and thanked the guy that was working on the bike for making him try and tune it with the pods. And hes good, and they still never really revved out properly. Once again, stock setup proves the best.
it is now. that was one of the pictures put on line by the guys I bought it from. Sodo Moto in Seattle. Nice guys fwiw. Here it is at my shop just after I got it. It's in little pieces at the moment but it's going back together as soon as I get my new rear shock.
scored a head for the MC19. My guy that tunes my bikes did this up for his son. MC19 head with valves cleaned and seated, shimmed up and ready to bolt on. Surfaces need a clean, no big deal, oil it up and store it is the plan for now. New manifold rubbers too.
