I need a rebuild kit for my MC19’s front brake caliper. Was that caliper used on any other bikes? I can’t imagine that Honda had Nissin make a caliper just for that bike but because the MC19 wasn’t sold in the states my usual parts lookups aren’t working. I can get one from across the pond but I don’t necessarily feel like waiting for it to get here. If I can find a cross listing with something that was sold in the states it shouldn’t be too hard to get a kit fairly quickly.
https://www.cmsnl.com/honda-cbr250r-1988-j-japan-mc19-100_model48708/partslist/0121.html click on a part name, then scroll down. CMSNL will give you a small list of where else that part was used without logging in, larger list if you log in. Googling the part number will lead you to domestic sources for at least one of the seals you need.
You could try going direct to a Nissin dealer. Authorized dealer for Motorcycle Parts SUDCO Address: 2410 S. Sequoia Drive Compton, CA 90220 Tel: (310) 637-8330 http://www.sudco.com/index.html
Good call. I guess I was just frustrated when I discovered that I was going to need a rebuild and I didn't think to just check the parts diagram. Turns out everything I need is available from Honda. I'm starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel on this bike but it's been a bit more of a journey than I usually like.
The plot thickens... I've got the caliper rebuilt and the bike is going back together nicely. Unfortunately I can't remember the correct orientation for the pad spring and I neglected to take pictures when I took the caliper apart. The spring can go in a couple of different ways but I'm not sure which is correct. Can anyone help me out with this? A: B: C: which one of these is correct or is it none of the above?
C is way wrong. A looks closest but I do not think is quite right. I recall that when inserted correctly the spring clips into the cutout area shown in photo C. You should be able to push the flat section into this area and the punched down clips help the spring sit correctly over the ridge closest to the centre of the caliper. Sorry, its been a while since I overhauled my caliper. A bit hard to explain. Once you get it in the right position it sort of clips in naturally and will not fall out. Peter.
After many cups of tea, some thinking and rude language I ended up with this: The spring puts pressure on the pads and it doesn't foul anything so I'm saying it's correct. If anyone knows different please speak up.
