So its no secret that the aussie economy is a knifes edge and in my opinion 2nd hand motorcycle prices have been massively effected. I am interested in your thoughts on values of used bikes, specifically the inline 4 250's . Having plenty of members on here with Cibbys, Fizzers, Gizzers and ZXR's I have noted a marked decrease in the 2nd hand bike values. I was talking on another forum and someone posted up a MC19 with rego for 3k and a few thought that was very expensive, 18 months ago I would have thought a MC19 with rego in reasonable nick would have easily gotten $3k , however now its seems $1500 - $2000 is a more realistic price
Here are my estimates for a 2nd hand bike with rego, its subjective at best as condition, kms etc all come into play...
    Honda
    MC19 $1500 to $2000
    MC22 $1800 to $3000
    Yamaha
    FZR250 $750 to $2000
    FZX250 $750 to $2000
    Suzuki
    GSX250F $1000 to $2000
    GSF250 $1000 to $2000
    GSXR250 $1500 to $2500

    Kawasaki
    ZXR250 A $800 - $1500
    ZXR250 C $1000 to $2000

I guess what I am asking is, has the market tanked for these bikes ?
Has the choice of LAMS approved bikes effected the prices ?
Is it the age and parts availability thats driving new riders towards newer bikes ?
I am now seeing 2nd hand 2010 model CBR250's on with 20000 kms going for under 4k, the Ninja ex250 is now only fetching $2500 - $3500
I guess in some respects its good for us who have a passion for them as we can get them cheap...

Interesting Topic........ Answers not so clear.

Being someone who watches various sites for 2nd hand bikes, I see many more bikes not selling with.. reserve not met.
This would suggest that the prices have come down, perhaps peoples expectation may be too high?

Not certain about Lams affecting prices.... possible.

Parts availability and cost could affect but the enthusiast will still pay, whatever the cost. Educated buyers may well consider paying a little more for something substantially newer..... 4 to 5 years versus 25 to 30 years, you be the judge.

As per your opening statement, the current economical outlook and perhaps some uncertainty may well push potential buyers to newer and more economical motorcycles, it's anybody's guess..........I cannot answers this.

Meanwhile, happy hunting for your next project, it could be cheaper than you think!

When I first started looking at getting motor bike I needed a lams bike that would handle my size 6.2 95 to 100kg. Also something to purchase under 2k and something I can use as a fixer upper. Thats why I brought the 92 Across so far it is doing all things well except I havnt found much that needs fixing yet! I believe most lams bikes over 250cc are over priced. But thats what the market dictates. Most Australians will believe a gs 500 will be a better bike than the Across for example. Why? Because it has twice as many ccs. The same foolish people will also beleive if they learn on a 500cc they will be able to jump staight on a 1000cc super sport once they are on an unrestricted licence.
As for the newer Ninja 250s and Honda Cb 250s being so cheap this I believe is because of the Ninja 300 and the soon to be released cbr 300 replacing them.
The fact that 250s have dropped in price is a good thing unless you have one you want to unload.
So to answer the question because the lams market is so popular and most Australians are ego driven about bigger is better 250 prices are low! If it was like years ago when we all had to start on a 250 they would be getting much more.

    Just my thoughts

Like a few have said there's no one reason, but next time you're in the city count how many brand new Honda cbr 125's you see- around $2500 for a brand new Honda has changed the game a bit. A lot of new riders like cheap bikes and a lot like new bikes and the cbr is both.
The number of scooters has also increased and eaten in to the bike market, especially the smaller capacities.

Yer I think definitely new LAMS bike rule has devalued the older bikes because of the competitive pricing these days for japan however I do beeline like myself in holding out for a older 250 in good knick and paying the same if not more for it than a new LAMS bike.
Guess it to taste I like the older look high reving inlines and 2 strokes as good as the new ones are for price I don't think they can compete in the performance or sound in older 250s also I have rode a few even cbr500 and nothing close to the cbr/fzr etc in the bends a lot more enjoyment!!!
    Just my opinion
