Honestly, I think the in-line 4 250 market has finally died, I am seeing Fizzers, Across's etc under $500 and that is the starting price, at least we still love them here :thumb_ups:

Hard to compete when you can buy a single or twin 250 for under $5000

I think the real competition is coming from the mid range market, the CBR500's etc, bit more power yet still LAMS approved. I'm guilty of eyeing them off but I'd probably go bigger again. Still got that Z1000 dream...

if your new to motorbikes and riding getting an old 250 probably isnt worth it, countless trips to the mechanic, not as user friendly as newer bikes either, abs and just general smoothness of a newer bike plus fuel injected.

True, but how will they learn to fix things for themselves?
They will not need forums like this to find answers, just one to pose with their latest shiny add on bit. :lolsign:

From what I have seen on other forums young guys buy older bikes but they are still scared to work on it themselves. Who knows why, missing out on all the fun

ill chime in here mainly because i'm apart of the generation that seem to be buying new LAMS bikes in favor of the old 4pot 250's

i bought a fzr250 knowing how prone to carb problems they are,i even bought one that was running like **** for $2000 no rego, considered taking it to someone to get running right did some research and stumbled upon this treasure chest of knowledge and knowledgeable people willing to help.

before my first post i had read every thread about the FZR 250 and knew i had to rebuild the carbs (BIG thanks to greyimport & maelstrom couldn't have done it/ wouldn't of been possible without either of you)

i however love they way it rides, it runs like it just came off the factory floor, has a genuine 19,000km, had mint condition original bodywork until i dropped it thanks to **** "Shinko" tires

now a close friend of mine was in the same position as me and went with a hyosung 650 mainly because 1) he figured with the new LAMS conditions starting in Victoria as of October he wouldn't loose much on resale 2) not that mechanically minded and just wanted something that would "go".

i bought my Fizzer with the expectation of losing every dollar i put to it ($2800 so far including purchase price) and i am ok with that! i hope to never have to sell it even though i'll be upgrading in 6 months or so.

unfortunately we live in a disposable world these days where "quality" has been replaced with "cheapest" products

i love my OLD FZR because its built right and doesn't feel cheap like bikes of these days
