Gday all, Im a 25yr old bloke with 2 sons and a wife. I live just out of morwell/traralgon area and crazy about all things that go fast or adventure, currently i own a VY SS 6spd ute, a GQ patrol with ALOT of work suspension and engine wise and my beautiful CBR. I just got my second CBR250RR (atleast this one is a genuine RR not like my first lol) sad part is i got it home a couple months ago and it all started as a flat battery....
Since then when it was running it would struggle to rev and backfire ect, i put a new battery in it and poof! The CDI let a puff of smoke out and popped the starter fuse, so for the last month or so i have been working on it bit by bit pulling all the stupid blue LED's and neons out the the old owner installed, sevicing what i can on the budget i have at the moment and hopfuly within the next 6 months after my wrist operation i can put it all back together and get back out on the road again! So far it has been a long tedious prosses but i love my CBR to much to give up on it. If anyone has come across any of these problems and would have some handy advice it would be greatly appreciated. Keen to get out on a ride with a few like minded people and make some new friends, cheers for having a read

It sounds like a short. Probably when the LED was installed, something was not properly isolated. You will have to check if the CDI and the starter solenoid still work. But I have the impression you have a short circuit somewhere.

    :welcome:

Yup my first thoughts also ..... if some numpty PO has been wiring in LEDs then most like a bodge job .... and yes a short somewhere
Check all the wiring especially up around the solenoid and battery leads that everything is correct and no broken/ split /damaged and connectors are all clean and not burnt
even check the polarity of the battery leads is correct

As far as i can see this is the first neon job that was done with some care, and i have bought alot of commodores haha. Anyway there was no shorts everything elec wise was fine till the CDI let a puff of smoke out. It was having small running issues before that so i think im just going to replace the CDI and voltage regulator then see what happens. I have inspected as much of the looms as i can see and it all looks to be in good condition with no cracking or shorts, im fairly confident it is just down to a failed CDI. Just need to find a replacment in my budget or borrow one and go from there
