So I'm thinking of wrapping my bike because it can be a cheaper alternative to paint. But on top of the vinyl I want to put some stickers and decals to complete the look of the bike but I am wondering if they will degrade? I was thinking of clearing the top of it (still can peel it off if need be but keeps the underneath good). Best way to protect the vinyl, especially on the tank and leading edges of the bike?
I've never done it before but I'm going to give it a go and hope for the best. I can't see the stickers affecting the vinyl but the clear coat will make it difficult to remove, especially if using a lower grade vinyl as it will make tear easier.
Well I wouldn't use anything other than 3M Vinyl to ensure long lasting results. I'm just trying to find a solution to a) protect the stickers from road grime/brake dust/oil etc and b) maintain a consistent gloss finish. I've seen people clear CF Vinyl wrap to give it depth and look more real. The easiest way is to just get a few cans of clear coat but I'm worried petrol or oil will mess it up. Obviously getting someone to clear it with 2 pack paint would work but I might as well get it painted from the start! I'm looking for a total DIY solution with good longevity and resistance to solvents.
I'm gonna have a crack at using the cheap stuff first just incase I screw it up. My cousin can get me some of the 3M stuff for free so it's not really a big deal if I screw it up.
I've done my belly pan in CF vinyl and it was a pain in the butt with all the curves. the cheap stuff will tear but so will the 3m, all depends on what its been exposed to. the 3m is more durable but still its vinyl so harsh contact it will tear. laying it on a flat surface is easy, i have done bonnets and roofs and they turn out ok, tanks and fairings are a bit tricky. my suggestion, watch youtube and do it slowly, keep trying to smooth it out around curves with a heat gun, but the more you mess up, even with cheap stuff it becomes expensive at $30 a meter. i'd price up getting a company to wrap the bike
pay as much as you can for the vinal dont even consider cheap stuff , i v had a suzuki across fuly wrapped , and honestly unless its just for a bike show or something its probably not worth it
