Take a video and post it up so we can get a better indication of what it might be

the transmissions are noisy on the fizzer - described to me as the rattling of a bag of spanners, which was accurate, that isn't however banging - what you describe doesn't sound healthy, only a video of the noise will let us know for sure

    peace out

Could be a gearbox bearing. Try listening with a 'mechanics stethoscope' (a large screwdriver touched on the cases and held against your ear) to see which area the noise is coming from.

I can't really make out what is gong on through your little mic, but have the following. comment:

I've found pretty much anything running in gear on a paddock stand makes a noise that you don't hear on the road. Particularly bad was a shaft drive BMW R1100 that I was the custodian of for a short while. On the center stand in gear at idle sounded like a diesel cement mixer with a few bricks in it. The lower the gear the greater the effect, you get all sorts of weird harmonics and clattering because there is no load. If you look while this is happening you'll probably see the chain flapping up and down and the rear wheel jerking round. A much higher gear reduces the effect. I'd suggest running it around on the road or dragging some back brake whilst on the stand to see if the noise goes away / changes before you look too much further.
