    Hi again,
I've got a new chain sitting here and I've just realised I'm going to have to shorten it. Rather than roughly measuring it or comparing it to the old chain does anyone know the exact number of links that this bike's chain is supposed to have?

My new chain has 120 links and my old one had about three or five less on a very rough count (may be more, it was very, very stretched).

This is with new sprockets as well, both standard size; 13 tooth front sprocket and 49 tooth rear sprocket from memory.

    Thanks!

110 links according to the manual with stock sprockets (13 front 49 back iirc)  :)

Wow, there's no way I can remove ten links. Are the links counted by the inner bits only?

If so, I can remove five links from my quick test fit. I had to adjust it to almost halfway on the adjuster, because the chain couldn't go one more link with the wheel completely forward.

Oh well, I guess that'll do. Is it normal for the axle to not be all the way forward with a new chain? I can't see any way to fit this chain otherwise.

Oh well, that worked well enough just removing five links. I would have liked to remove one more, but I couldn't.

No more death rattle from the chain and no more three inches of play at max adjustment, nice!

I could even pull bits of metal from my rear sprocket's teeth (or what was left of them)!
