Help Cam chain tension

looks abit loose, take out the tensioner and soak it in some oil then put it back in, what was it like before you took out the cams and everything?

 

i cant really tell by that video, but its not real loose, take out your tensioner and check it for wear. I look for wear on the cylinder thing and check the spring for any spots that are worn. They are 70 bucks from kawasaki i think, i have the part number if you want it.

 

i have the '91 model c zxr 250 and i think i need a new tensioner as mine seems worn, but upon inspection, i think it's faulty, i can hear what sounds like a chain rubbing. and since then i have been unable to get the bike started. i get backfiring... but it could also be the carbs... they're in dire need of rebuild lol

 

I think it's too loose. If yours is a springback tensioner like my bandit one (with a flathead screw in the rear of it) put the screwdriver back in it and turn it a bit more to fully engage. You also need to ensure that all the chain slack is on the tensioner side before you tighten it.

 

nah i got the auto-tensioner... when you install the tensioner theres a lock screw to hold back the pin, which on mine doesnt hold the pin at all, i think i've fix the slack, bike still doesn't fire up. i'd like a part number for a new tensioner... i have to replace all my hoses as they are begining to show signs of cracking which could also be causing a vaccum/air leak

 

Springback/auto meaning same thing. If you just take the screwdriver out and let it unwind it won't be enough. You have to turn it that little bit more and you'll see the chain tighten and it engage properly.

that screw on the top only hold the pin back for installation/removal purposes

 

Ah I get it now. Mine's an automatic tensioner so slightly different. Still reckon the one in the vid is too loose though.
