This is what I use. I am not sure if it is the best, but it hasn't caused me any problems:

Oil: Shell 4-stroke motor oil. I fully replace this every 5000 km's. (I replace the filter every 10 000)
Brake Fluid: Generic Dot-4 brake fluid (I get it from "east coast auto spares' and they have their own generic brand)
Coolant: same stuff I use in the car - a generic concentrate. And put in a slightly higher concentration of coolant than stated on the back of the bottle.
Chain Grease/Oil: I am using shell spray on chain oil. Many others highly recommend the dry spray on lube. Clean and oil chain regularly (every 1000 km's may be a good mark)!

Just one other note: I have heard bad things about using shell optimax in bikes. There are rumours saying that because it is designed for high performance cars it can actually damage a motorcycle engine, or in the least reduce performance. I use premium fuels from other stations instead just in case.

Thanks for the info, that's helpful.. I saw 2 type of shell 4stoke oil.. forgot the name but which one do you use?

As for coolant, I've found that my coolant bottle was empty a week after I got the bike (my first time to check it after a week.. @@).. is there anything special when refilling coolant in this case? like in cars you have to also fill up the radiator.. do i need to do that for a bike? cuz I can't find any radiator cap or such thing..

I've heard from another biker said he found normal unleaded fuel performe better then premium.. I'm not sure which brand is he talking about but any comment?

Hey there bro's

I use a motor oil called Motul, reason behind this is because Ive always used it and never ever with problems also alot of racers use it (maybe ill get an extra 5hp out of motul haha). Another reason is because if I chose an oil I want to be replacing that oil with the same brand next time I do a oil change so I know that motul is always going to be sold around my ways. After all the engine work that was done on my bike I use a mineral oil just to work the new parts in but it smokes real bad, burns off a bad smell and all in all is a crap oil. The oil is made buy Caltex so dont use any of their crap!

Chain oil is simple, any real tacky sticky brand is good because the chain dosnt work up that much heat so there for dosnt need extra heat barriers. I would recomend buying a mid to expensive chain oil.

I use dot 4 in my brakes as Yamaha recommend it for our bike. Its got good heat barriers and donst boil under extreme presure. Again try for the mid to expensive one.

With fuel I use unleaded 91 octane, im not sure what octane rating it is in Aus but I wouldnt use 96 octane or over. Unleaded 91 is what Yamaha says to run it on and 96 can fowl the plugs up.

Engine coolent is the same as Boz just real good car coolent. With alittle stronger concentrate.

Happy riding

coolent

O yeah and when doing engine coolent, full up the over flow bottle and the radiator. Full the radiator up by taking the tank off the bike and theres the radiator neck where u full it up just like on a car.

Also might be a good idea to flush the radiator out.

Personally I find the premium fuels work better for me (Jarmizz: these are 96 octane). When I used regular fuels (this can be 89 or 91 octane depending on the station) my engine just doesn't perform as well, and when I have pulled out my spark plugs they are quite white and dry (even if I just stopped). I also find that I have difficulties starting at times when using the regular fuel. With the premium they come out just slightly moist and slightly black which is what is wanted (not black like they have been fouled though).

However, and I have said this before and will again, I know my carbies need tuning and I am too lazy to do it! So it is probably best to listen to what fuel the others use rather than me!

And a warning: I also saw at a BP station they are now selling and advertising regular fuel that contains 10% ethanol. They are encouraging its use because it is recyclable etc. However, it will eat the engine and is against all manufacturers guidelines for motorcycles (and most cars).

oh

Oh true there Boz, funny thing is when I went out to play with my bike last night (after I posted) I wipped the plugs out and they are looking bad ( they are only about 3 hours engine running time). So im gona go to 96 Octane and see what happens. Sorry for the change of hart but some times the people that build these things dont always gte things right.

My carbs are tuned just right so its prob best to run 96 I gess, ill try it and tell ya folks how I go!

Yeah I screwed around with my carbs(bitch of a job) and finally got em just right > I find the premium (96) fuels make my bike run much better plus it burns cleaner and gives better fuel econ

BTW I use motul engine oil(5000ks + a filter they only cost like 12bucks why not ?) and castrol chain oil every(750-1000) coolant car

yeah the last owner of my bike used motul engine oil and motul chain oil, And so do I now probably cuz of all the subliminal advertising when I go to race meets. Everyone seems to have a motul sticker somewhere in their pit or on their bike.
I'm still a bit iffy on the fuel saga, my last owner used PULP(96oct) but I'm unsure whether to change, looks like he ran the bike rich but it could be the fuel that fouled up the plugs. I know he didn't touch the bike much so hopefully a bit of TLC by me will have it in tip top shape in no time.

i use motul oil but since my last oil change i had to stop at a servo and they didnt have it so now i got castrol or something. I will go back to motul when i use this bottle up. I like to get vortex, and some other premiums. Shell optimax and bp ultimate dont run so good on my bike so i either get vortex or regular. Sometimes my bike will get a bit rough at the 10-12k revs but i found using nulon octane booster and cleaner makes it run snoother for about 1,000ks. I tend not to use it alot as i have herd it can be bad. Not sure about coolant as i havent needed to do so yet and chain oil i just use a shell.

I use shell VSX4, it’s a fully synthetic oil don’t have anything to say against it. My bike likes the premium fuels better than regular but I try to stay away from the shell premium. It is more dense than other fuels and isn’t so good for bikes. I use mid price spay on chain oil but hear good things about chain wax. Anyone had any experiences with the wax?

I was speaking to the guy at the bike shop today, and asked him about fuel and he said that premium is not a problem and i should find it runs a bit smoother. He did say NOT to run Optimax due to some of the additives deposit on the plag and cause it to erode quickly.

Im due for my first service. =[ we should arrange a service day with a bike shop. A car club I know would do it once a year, members would have the opertunity to bring their cars into the shop and use some proper worksop equiptment for the day, each member paid a donation to the poor bastard that had to open up on a sunday and help everyone. It worked quite well.

BTW: anybody in melbourne have a service stand for the fzr?
