Nah dont worry about draining battery power..I installled a blue neon above my radiator a few months ago..it drains around .1 of a volt if that...they are very economical..considering headlights drain over a volt.

I work at autobarn hoppers crossing, normal neons are about 20 dollars..though u can the super bright LED's in a tube (like a neon but with 10 or so LED's. My guess it that they might be a lil brighter than a neon would..and they will set u back around 30 dollars.

Switch is easy...I just connected the neon straight to the batter with a fuse...and wired a rocker switch with some double sided tape on the inside of the side fairing.

If I had a camera id take pics of it at night but I dont

leds aint that simple

as good as it would be, installing leds isnt a matter of hooking both ends up to a battery like any other lamp. leds are like diodes and they only work properly at a particular current. and if the current isnt controlled properly your leds may still work but may halve if not worse the life of the leds.
leds usually require extra control components such as resistors.

so keep that in mind before you go buy a bunch of leds. go check with a lecky or even someone at dick smiths.

all the best

btw, what do u guys think of sukui rgv 250s?

yeah dude RGV's hammer, that was the bike i originally wanted to get coz they look a fair bit like the 3LN(kiiiinda anyhow). the same engine was used for the aprillia RS250. The RGV is also according to this dude at the bike shop, his most stacked learner bike so probably want to be comfortable riding them as you gotta ride them at high revs

Yeah as benno said, LEDs are very sensitive. If you put too much current through them they will blow.. The LED sticks however...already have inbuilt resistors..so u just connect them to the battery like u would a neon.

Im getting rid of my fzr before xmas hopefully...dont get me wrong I love the bike, and it goes great..Its just getting a lil too old. And I reckon if I keep it for another 12 months..its gonna be a lot harder to sell.
Anyone got any suggestions on what to get? Looking at spending around 4,500. Ive already convinced myself to get an RGV. CBR's are way too expensive and overrated. I want something at least 95... So I could pick up a 98 rgv for that price. I also like the cagiva mitos...they are wicked..pitty they only 125cc.

Too bad about the FZR grendal - I'm planning to hang on to mine ('88 job) until I can get something bigger (still 13 months away) - even though you're right about 'em getting pretty old. Does it run OK?
RGV's are v. quick but keep in mind they're 2 strokes so use a fair bit more fuel and require more maintenance (engine bits like pistons / rings wear out quicker) - I reckon a Honda NSR250 would be pretty cool too - not as many around and they hammer as well

rgv

yeah i was soooo close to buying a 3ln a few months ago, but something told me not to. now ive got a 96 rgv lined up for 4300. which is pretty wickid. i just missed out on an even better deal so i hope i get this one.
hey you know how you were saying (not sure who it was) but ya said you need to keep the revs up on it. isnt that a bit weird commin from someone who rides a machine that revs out to 20k+ and all the power is high up in the rev range. where as the rgv doesnt even rev past 15 and its real power is starts at something like 7k.
not having a go at anyone but the fzrs and cbrs rev way higher than rgvs and produce less power.

anywayz
i must say out of all the forums i find this has the warmest and nicest people. good onya guys.

Thanks mate about the forum comment.. I guess its coz we are a smaller community with something in common.

My guess for the RGV revving not as high..is the fact thats it doesn't have 4 cylinders? I think its 2..therefore to make up 250cc..the size of the pistons have to be biiger...therefore more momentum, and therefore they cant rev as high.

Speaking of LEDS you can get ones that are valve caps i have a set on my bike unfortantly the batteries are dead and the on n off swithes on them arnt working properly :p but what they are is they are LEDS that are in a Valve cap and they go on your tires and u can get ones that turn on when the wheels start moving but the ones i got u just push them down to turn them on and pull them up to turn them off i have been told it looks really cool when i ride past with them on but as the on n off thing has kinda broken the batteries have just died so yea but they look really cool and i went into a police station and inquired about them and they said it wasnt illegal even tho i think i may of confused her lol but yea there is a good idea for you they are approx $20 for a pair and you can get htem and Auto Barn and places like that

Seen them on eBay, Dean. Don't have a link handy, but do a US Search by FZR1000 and you'll come across some.

I know in Sydney you will get a fine for it. Thus why you should have a switch and choose your moments for it. but then again too much attention for my hot looking bike and body.. so I dont wanna cause chaos on the roads. lol
