Well, if you haven't read the news - Rossi won last nights MotoGP race on his new steed. (From http://www.crash.net/uk/en/news_view.asp?cid=6&nid=89786 - the motogp site was down)

It was the most anticipated race in modern motorcycling history and it didn't disappoint: Today at Welkom, Valentino Rossi won a fantastic season-opening Africa's Grand Prix after battling Max Biaggi from start to finish to end Honda's ten race win streak on his Yamaha debut.

Rossi and Biaggi fought the whole way. Gibernau (3rd) was 7 seconds. Then must wait 11 seconds for the rest of the pack to come meandering by.

    Drifing

Well to answer your question Shandu you can drift on any tyres and if any one wants to question that have alook at supermotard they race dirtbikes on road bike tyres on track and dirt and they drift big time. In MotoGP back in the day of the NSR500 and bikes alike they use to come into a corner real hot (fast) and get the rear sliding, this in turn made for a quicker exit. Now you are thinking how can this be, sliding slows it down. Well it dosnt for some strange reason, the use to slide the bike around corners. I was reading a huge!!!!! write up in a old bike mag and they were talking all about it but ive forgotten all about it till now. I'll fish it out and scan it for you fullas to see what im talking about.

I can remember seeing this on telly as I would have been only 13 at the time and wasnt into MotoGP or GP500 as it was called, I was into watching Aaron Slight in the World Super Bikes before it turned to ****.

With Val Rossi (I say like hes my best mate, Val) When they come into a corner real hot and slam there front brakes on and slam down through the gears, the rear (swing arm, rear tyre and shocks etc) hasnt had enough time to slow down to the speed the front is going. So to review again, the bike comes into a corner doing 200km/h then slows to 120km/h by useing mostly the front brakes, now the rear is still doing around 160km/h because it hasnt had the time needed to slow down to the speeed the front is doing. So the rear has no where to go but out to the side.

You can do this by simply doing what I just said.

    Cheers for ya time guys
    James

    drift

O yeah and Dean if you wanna drift, come into a corner at 150km/h lean in pushing your back, back so that you look like a speedway racer. and slam the gears down to 2nd dive on the front brake so all the weight swings the rear out and hit the gas hard and just drift it. Hahahahahahhahahahaha then WACK!!!! into the girls.

This weekends MotoGP - What A F@%KING RACE!!!!

Rossi is an absolute legend, but to see real drift watch Bayliss & Gary McCoy! Pretty much every corner he's drifting into it! A lot of the guys that have come from motocross/dirtbikes seem to like it but a lot that have only ever been road racers like their rear end to stick to the road and go in a straight line.

It's about time Yamaha got a champion onto one of their bikes let alone the genious (spelling) of Burgess his head engineer (team manager) & Doohans before him.
