    gday all, i just got a 91 red/white r1 coloured 3ln fzr two weeks ago.
    is it a common thing for fzr's to break speedo cables cause the guy that owned the bike before me went through a few and now mine has snapped and it was brand new for the rwc?
    also what gears do you guys sit in at what speed? i have a tingate racing muffler (f#@$n loud but a great headturner even for harley boys!) and at 60ks fifth or sixth sounds the best as it sounds like a big bike!!
    i have fully serviced bike myself and had carby balance and exup checked by my mates bike workshop although i still find it has flat spots at say fourth gear at 60kph and if i rev out second and hit third there is a slight flat spot. is this common?

    finally is there a aussie unifilter a/f part number for the 3ln3? cause i keep finding the 2kr one i can get but not the later pad one.

    thanks

    welcome,
    nice purchase on the bike mate.
    im quite sure that speedo cables dont snap, unless you f#ck around with them or try pulling them out. dont know how they would break if you just leave them there.
    i usually sit in either 3rd or 4th gear and that can take me from 60kph - 90/100kph(all depends on the road limit and where your riding aswell). and yes i like to ride and thrash my bike hard. lol <!-- s:D --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_biggrin.gif" alt=":D" title="Very Happy" /><!-- s:D -->
    i get some flat spots there too, think it might be common for the fzr's. might have to hear afew more replies to really know if it's common or not.
    gonna go back onto the <!-- s:alcoholic: --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_all_coholic.gif" alt=":alcoholic:" title="Alcoholic" /><!-- s:alcoholic: --> <!-- s:alcoholic: --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_all_coholic.gif" alt=":alcoholic:" title="Alcoholic" /><!-- s:alcoholic: --> <!-- s:alcoholic: --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_all_coholic.gif" alt=":alcoholic:" title="Alcoholic" /><!-- s:alcoholic: -->

    Flat spots are fairly common...but there is a few things u can do to minimise them...I have a 2kr..and once warmed up...I dont find many flat spots anymore... I had the carbies tuned..and also the mixing ratio screws...these are quite important as well..however knowing how much to screw them out is a guess..I think it might list the recommended turns in the fzr 400 manual, I went like half a turn more.

    Also if you have an exup I believe that can cause you to flat spot at certain revs as well if its not tuned properly

    speedo cables breaking are not common, but mine did break one day. Went to a wrecker and bought a replacement for $12.

    My other half saw your post and has a comment to make about breaking the cables. Most common reason they break is that they get bent too much around the fairings, which puts a kink in them. This kink is a weak spot which then breaks.
    Hope this helps..

    Yeah, under constant acceleration....the bike will accelerate..and then hit a flat spot where theres like to acceleration..

    Dean, try starting you bike up when its cold, and in neutral. Ease the throlle to about 6,000 revs to start, then from idle, tweak the throlle fast. U should notice the bike nearly dies. Well it does with mine anyway :p Untill it warms up..then its responsive as.
