I bought a used fzr250 (3LN). i wanted to familiarize myself with this bike's technicals. the radiation fan is always on which i hate for some reasons. 1) it lowers the electrical current for startup. 2) it prolongs the time for the engine to preheat

anyone knows how to test the switch? is the part universal for all motorcycle? is it hard to find?

The fan should not be on continuously. Although I'm not familiar with the 250, I would suspect that the thermo switch would be located either in the lower half of the radiator or on the thromostat housing. As far as availibity? Nada here in the States unless another Yami model uses the same. I have no way of checking on that for you without a P/N.

The thermo fan switch is located on the right hand side (sitting on the bike) if you look throught he fairing where the fan is..you should see the switch..it has a white clip end thing on it..and it screws into the engine somewhere. If ur in aus..they cost arout 25 bucks at a wreckers

the fan on my bike wasnt coming on at all which caused it to get hot in heavy traffic it was fine any other time so my huband connected it up to a toggle switch and mounted it on the inside of the fairing works perfectly now i just have to keep an eye on the temp guage if it starts getting hot flick the switch for a few minutes and crisis over hehe.

fzr_chick, you might want to check into replacing your thermostat or temp sensor. Not saying that your fix isn't acceptable, but that there is a problem that you have cricumvented.

we had it checked out and the thermo switch is not working i am planning on getting it fixed properly but buying a second hand switch from a wreckers may have the same problem and being a grey import the Yamaha dealer was not to keen to help me out this way it has got me out of trouble and i can still ride it to to work daily.

If there is any way to get a part number, we could check to see if the number crosses over to a different model. Hence being able to find it new if it isn't too pricey.
