Hey guys, I took my '88 Exup in for a service just recently, and i admit that the local yamaha dealer did an excellent job with it, but have left me with an issue. My bike will now only start when in neutral. It used to start when it was in gear, so long as the clutch was fully pulled in. This was very handie for when the bike stalls (mine stalls occasionally while slowing down after periods of high revs). Now when i try and start it this way, the Oil light comes on but the starter motor doesnt do anything. Is this normal? Any ideas? It is very very annoying to have to try and find neutral when im in a stream of traffic with a stalled bike!
the clutch switch would b stuck i imagine. wen i changed my lever over i noticed the lil siwtch would stick n done nuffin bout it. so after that it wouldnt start unkless in nuetral. all i done was sprayed some wd40 into the pin thats suppose to move in n out n it works. hope it helps dave
yup good call.... and if not sometimes the sidestand switch relay gets clogged and needs a clean as well...
Alrighty, sounds like that is my problem. Now let us understand that i am a completely un-mechanical rider, in fact, even worse, im a computer technician... However im normally pretty good at figuring these things out, but if you guys could just tell what it is that im looking for so i have somewhere to start. I am going to take for granted that it is the clutch switch, and not the kickstand relay, because it starts fine in neutral every time. But then again i may be wrong, like i say, im still learning these things. Any help appreciated!
FIXED! no need for more help. Turns out the whiz mechanics i have had working on my bike neglected to re-attach one of the wires to the clutch switch. Thanks for all your help you are all life savers!
