    Hey all... hope the subject was diverse enough to get some attention.

    I've made an awesome mate who is somewhat of a backyard wizard when it comes to both the mechanicals and cosmetics of bikes, especially lil two-fiddy's like the FZR, CBR & ZX2R. Just went and had my fairings plastic welded yesterday by him and now i've got a good few days worth of sanding, bogging, and more sanding before a new lick of paint goes on... but i digress. ;)

    In conversation, he mentioned that he was looking to get a set of moulds made up for both models of the CBR, and all 3 models of the FZR (2KR, 3LN-1 & 3LN-2/3). If this were the case then all of our concerns regarding smashed, cracked or broken fairings could go out the window! So i said i'd fish around and see if i could get any interest in this little community project and see where it went from there.

    The first step in getting this all underway is to find someone with nice pristine fairings... he said they were even better if they've been resprayed once or twice. We'd need to meet up with my mechanic mate and probably 'borrow' the fairings for 24-48 hours to make the moulds. In loaning the fairings, no harm would could to them at all! I must emphasise this as i was hesitant about the scheme until he reassured me of the process.

    Now, from having that mould the benefits start coming back to our FZR community pretty much straight away. Say you've got a crack in a side fairing... no problem; take fairing off, clean it up with soap & water then bring it down to my mate. He puts all the pieces in the mould, then plastic welds it back up again to the point where the lines on the fairing are perfect matches (very difficult to do without the mould). You then go away, sand, bog, prime & paint and you've got a stronger than original fairing.

    Also from having those moulds, say you completely destroy a fairing (side, top, tail, anything)... a replacement road fibreglass one can be made up for at absolute most about $250 (that was just a ballpark figure he gave me). Can't remember how much i was told when i went shopping around for replacement side fairings but im 90% positive it was alot more than that.

    Finally, interested in a track day for your little baby FZR? Interested in keeping it as a track bike once you've upgraded? Well full sets of race glass (thinner, lighter, but about the same strength as factory plastic) can be made up no problem. Again, unsure on the price at the moment... but if you know of somewhere else that does it... chances are it'll be cheaper.

    Now for any 'loan' of pristine fairings some nice person does... i'm sure we could strike a deal that your bike would have a full carby balance & tune (normally ~$100-140 at a mechanic). Sounds like a good deal? Well i need some sort of gauge of interest, so if you have fairings in good condition and are interested (regardless of location although preferably Vic); post up (or PM) me your details and what bike you have etc.

    Cheers,

    Koma.

    PS. Also, if anyone is interested in the R2 conversion (as in with the R6 front, and possibly also tail) - keep it in mind that these moulds will make this possible. So you may see my bike with a full R6 narrow-body (taken in about 1-2") front. ;)

    wanna borow mine. ROFLMAO...

    $250 is the price of fibreglass replacements from Vic bike wreckers. so you'd want em pretty good. ive seen second hands for 150 a side.

    DOH! I REALLY wish I hadn't dropped my bike now!! <!-- s:( --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_sad.gif" alt=":(" title="Sad" /><!-- s:( --> <!-- s:mad: --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_mad.gif" alt=":mad:" title="Mad" /><!-- s:mad: --> <!-- s:cry: --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_cry.gif" alt=":cry:" title="Crying or Very sad" /><!-- s:cry: -->
    The left side is nicely scared from that little "lapse" in concentration while I was slowing for a red light...... <!-- s:???: --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_confused.gif" alt=":???:" title="Confused" /><!-- s:???: -->

    But the right side is still good!! <!-- s:rofl: --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_razz.gif" alt=":rofl:" title="Rofl" /><!-- s:rofl: -->

    I've got a 2kr, so if you wanna borrow at least the right side fairings you're more than welcome too.

    I'd love an R2 Conversion!!! <!-- s:wink: --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_wink.gif" alt=":wink:" title="Wink" /><!-- s:wink: --> <!-- s:mrgreen: --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_mrgreen.gif" alt=":mrgreen:" title="Mr. Green" /><!-- s:mrgreen: -->
    One day I'd probably be interested in raceglass, too.
