I have just purchased a 1986 or1987 2kr and it has a little fixing up to do. When stopping the front break intermitently brakes and relazes. The previous owner said that it maybe that it just needs to be cleaned and another person claimed it may be air bubbles inside. To better describe the feeling when applying the front breaks, it feels something like firing an automatic weapon... strong braking, weak breaking, strong braking, weak braking..... this repetition occurs maybe 3 times a second... so fairly rapidly. I'm wondering how I can fix it. I read the how too on changing the brake fluid to get the air out but am waiting on doing that so I don't have to do unnecessary work. Thanks for your help.

Greetings Kokorozashi!!!

Sounds like the rotors are warped (out of round). If you were to take the fron wheel off and then take off the brake rotor, you could lay it on a peice of glass and check it with a feeler gauge.

i'd agree with fzrdude as i just had the same problem on my 2kr.
see http://www.fzr250.com/viewtopic.php?t=978
its pretty bloody annoying apart from being dangerous when it gets too bad. You can get the disc (or rotor as the yanks call it) machined, provided it has enough thickness left in it, otherwise may need to replace. Machining cost me around $90, but i had to get the front wheel off the bike and then take the disc off and drive it to a place. Mechanics would charge you a fair bit more.
Where are you located??

Anyone for forth? If is forcing the caliper piston's back as far as described, chances are, the disc is bent past it's tolerance and therefore NEEDS replacing. Unless your 100% sure of your engineering skills, Dont leave things like this to chance.

I recommend Spiegler. I ordered a rotor, 14 mm radial master cylinder, and braided brake line from Spiegler. Hopefully the parts will arrive soon. If I could forward the pics to someone to post . . .

Thanks a lot!

I guess I have to replace it... I am in Japan. What are the specs for a new disk so I know what to buy? I really appreciate the help!

Brake Specs

I've checked a Japanese website and it only says "single disk opposite 4 point callipers" maybe a bad translation. I have unfortunately never fixed brakes(last motorcycle was drum brakes) so I don't know what to buy. Is this information enough? Got info from:

thanks again.

It is the same rotor as the FJ1200, TDM, and TZR250. Obviously you only need one though. NOTE: this information is in relation to the 2kr. I can check on the 3ln if someone needs.

Yes please!

If the FZR250 shares a rotor with another bike then it'll almost definitely be alot cheaper to order one off the other bike. In Australia (especially Victoria) any 250 parts tend to attract an asshole tax of sorts.

Then again, i guess cheap is cheap; so i should just go get a new set and be done with it. All in good time (and if needed) i guess.

What about a nice wave rotor? I am sure that Galfer has those.
