hey people, its a bit weird. Im losing oil quite quickly, about 1 litre per 400kms. Its not leaking onto the ground, yet it doesnt blow any smoke. Is there a simple problem that could be giving these symptoms? Im not sure if I am losing coolent, must not be using much if any- to hard to see. Thankyou in advance.
That seems a bit strange to me. I think it must be burning a little mabey not enough to notice or perhaps only at higher rpm under load, its a bit hard to tell if its blowing smoke when your going fast even if someone is behind you.
Easiest way to tell if your getting any oil coming through is to get a white sheet of paper, idle the bike until warmed up, then get someone to hold the sheet of paper behind the exhaust and open it up a bit. Start of and go to 10k rpm and check it for oil, go to 14k rpm, then 16k etc etc. A small amount of soot is normal (AFAIK), thats carbon - but anything that is liquidy and black is probaby oil. Other thing would be to check and i'm assuming you have, is that it's not dropping oil whilst parked. Check the sump plug, check the oil filter. Check around the bottom of the bike with the fairings off to see if there's any buildup anywhere.
ow that quick... not good... A) are you checking it correctly?? B) are you checking the level when the bike is cold?? c) are you checked the oil thesame way every time??
if you are checking it wrong and continiously filling it, it could be pumping oil out of the engine breather into the airbox. ive never seen it but the mechanic who recently rebuilt my 3ln said that if it was overfilled with oil it would push oil into the airbox before it would blow a seal/gasket
As stated already. You may not notice smoke when you're cruising down the road. My bike loses 1ltr / 5000k's. Sometimes Less. There's nothing you can do. Putting thicker oil in your bike will only harm it. Best just to satisfy it's need and keep on riding.
