hi
ive been over at ezboard and already asked this question ...
does anyone know the seat height in cm of an fzr250?
ive only just gotten my bike license and a friend of mine is thinking of selling his fizzer. im kind of short and there's a limited list of 250's that i can ride (and that look cool). The fizzer def looks cool but i don't know if i could ride it. I can fit bikes that are 750mm high or less. can someone help me?
much appreciated.

According to the specs a 2KR is 750mm and a 3LN is 735mm. Presumably that would be with the rear monoshock at the lowest setting.

I have talked to a few poeple about the toy run and they recon it would be too late to get any accomodation too. Must be popular.

I reckon fuel would be a bummer though on a FZR - I would have to fill at burnie, perth and brighton just to get to hobart, by my calculations.

Thinking back, I think there was something in the local paper last week about it being cancelled due to lack of sponsorship and rising insurance costs.
I have not heard anything else about it since.

I will check with my bro in-law as I think he was going.

fizzer in launnie

i don't actually have a bike yet, re my first post. the bike my mate might be selling is blue, but i don't know what model it is.
i have seen that bike around and it is a 3LN, although i don't know who rides it.
i'd buy the bike off my friend if i could but i still don't have enough. im hoping he might be nice enough to let me pay it off, fingers crossed

3ln in launnie

i just had a thought ...
thinking back, i think it might have actually been a cbr250 mc22 that ive seen around. the guy who rides it comes and parks it at my school sometimes for no reason.
i saw the 3ln i thought it was the other day and it was actually a maroon-y red (do they come like that? i reckon it was a paint job)
wouldn't mind having a cbr50 tho ....
(ducks as fizzer fans throw large heavy blunt objects at me)

in all fairness there is little difference in performance between a cbr and fzr 250's.

cbr: easy to find parts, higher resale value (but then again, you are also going to pay more to buy it). Drawback - everyone and their dog has one.

fzr: not as common which some people like (i.e. me... ), lower resale value (but you will pay much less to start - so you usually don't end up losing as much with an fzr as you do a cbr). Main drawback is parts - being grey imports means parts can be difficult to find, but normally there won't be any issue.

THe other thing you will want to check out is insurance - some companies will not insure fzr250's because they are grey imports (it also depends on age, your rating, etc.). So if insurance is something you want then check before you buy. (Similarly they won't insure the grey imported cbr's for the same reasons, but will insure cbr's sold originally in australia).

cbr250 vs fzr250

thanks for that, now i have a point of reference in case i find a cbr250!

im not sure if the fizzer is a grey import, ill have to ask. coz it'll be my first bike i really don't want to have to worry about spare parts or insurance for a grey import so i really hope its not!

and as for everyone and their dog having a cbr250, i can agree with that - i know a guy with one and sometimes he takes his dog for a ride with him on the tank!

all fzr's in australia are grey imports (and some cbr's are - I think the cbr-r is grey import, and the cbr-rr is not... or something like that - I don't know cbr's).

Insurance may not be a problem though - check with the insurance companies. In vic some people have had problems, others haven't. Parts - while they are not quite as easy to get as a cbr, you can still get them. Probably the hardest bit to get are fairings - engines, levers, etc. can be found relatively easily.

I should also note - don't forget that whatever fzr250 you buy the last year they were manufactured was 1994. If they are selling it as a 2000 (for example) that was the compliance date, not the manufacture date. There are lots of people that 'trick' others into believing compliance = manufacture...

I think cbr r and the cbr rr are both impors i dont no if they were still making the cbr r when the cbr rr was made in aus about 1998 i think

both can't be grey imports - there are some that were originally sold by dealers... Maybe I'm wrong... (note: there is a need to distinguish grey import and just import - most bikes in Aus are imported, but they are 'grey imports' if they were not officially imported by the manuafacturer)

you really need to know ask people at netrider - they can answer this quickly.

(edit - they already answerd it in a past post. Check out http://www.netrider.net.au/forums/viewtopic.php?t=6337 - the post by Pete the Freak, 8th post)

thanks for that, id always wondered the difference between mc19 and mc22's apart from the number!
no new fizzer's since 1994 ... what is the world coming to...
and now i know the difference between compliance and manufacture dates! a new way to tell whether or not the ads are leading me on ...
