Can anyone help? my bike is running well, although the oil light came on when i was going for a ride so I pulled over and it went off, I carried on slowly till i found level ground checked the oil and it was a little low so I topped it up but it still comes on but only when Going up hill and doing over 8,000 rpm, and light goes out once the revs drop again. Any Ideas?

The Oil Light only comes on when the oil drops below a specified level. It is not a oil pressure light.

it could be that it is pumping through the system faster so there is not as much in the reservoir <!-- s:???: --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_confused.gif" alt=":???:" title="Confused" /><!-- s:???: -->

I have a similar problem, but i think my bikes leaking oil from somewhere.

Cruising on freeway in 6th donig 110km\h and light comes on, pull in clutch and roll to 100km\h and it goes off without fail.
Happens a couple times each trip to and from work, even happens when oil level is fine(and not a touch low)
This has been going on for a few weeks now, think i found the leak, just got to make sure its where i think it is, find the time to fix it and buy a new gasket.

Similar thing happened to me over the weekend, Hooning around the countryside at full noise, never ever had a problem.
Sunny warm afternoon, made the pilgrimage into town for the spa pools with the missus on the back who gets all flappy if the bike revs more than about 8 grand and 50K's.
So as you can imagine, 250 was warm but not hot, and for no apparent reason the oil light came on. Stopped and had a look but with nothing seeming out of order, we carried on only for the light to come on again about a kay down the road.
Got home and let the oil settle for an hour and checked the sight gauge only to find the level bang on in the center.
Later that evening, I took the long way to the video store sans bee-atch and gave it a proper caining, NO LIGHT, bizzare.

    Another oil light story.
My bike has done 15000km since i got it and never really had a hiccup. Two times the oil light has come on, both after top speed runs (~170kph) - Not while going quick, mind you, but later on when cruising on the fwy at 110kph. As soon as the revs come down (ie leave the fwy) the light goes off. Both times i stopped and waited and checked oil level and it was ok.
    ????
I've put it down to running the engine at high revs for lengthy periods maybe thins the oil out enough for the pressure to drop too low. But if the sensor is based on the oil level, then i'm f'd if i know why the light is going on.
That little red light can really mess with your head (and i spose thats a good thing generally)

In 2 years, I have only had the light come on in one instance. On my trip to the MotoGP. It came on once while I was down there, and then once on the way back. On the way back I added 1/2 of 1 quart and I haven't had the problem since. That was a high speed run for 1,500 miles each way. Of course I haven't run it that hard for that long since, but I may give it a long ride today.

Yea come to think of it I got her up to about 165km/h and it was not long after that the oil light came on. The plot thickens or does the oil thin...
