Should always have eye protection on. Even if it is clear glasses for night. I never rely on my face shield as I don't always have it down.

OH MY GOD that's the first time i've heard of that happening...... what speeds were you travelling at for that to happen?

I was once on a bike travelling at 160/170 km/h and had my visor open. a bug hit me on the nose and it HURT, and i've learnt since then to keep the visor down low if not closed...

I'm (un)lucky enough to wear glasses anyway so I can get away with riding with an open visor a bit more, but I got a fly inside my helmet the other day just before I came to a stop at some lights - it was buzzing around inside my ear and driving me crazy. The woman behind me must have wondered what the hell I was doing banging and shaking my helmet trying to get it out of my ear!
It found its way out just before the lights went green anyway!

Thats no fun mate - I hope it's all good too soon.

I don't know about your Q-ride but my instructor for the L and P test was strict on keeping your visor down at all times.

Even with the visor up and glasses on last weekend, something managed to get under my glasses and distract me from the road

Here in Tas we have European wasps and I got one in my face after I had just gone around the corner from home. Luckily it bounced out again immediately. I only ever lift the visor when I stop at traffic lights and intersections and only have the visor cracked open about 10-15mm in hot weather (hot for tassie).

Have the northern states got African dung beetles??? They are a menace here if you are riding in cattle farm areas around a 1/2 hour before sunset. It's like being pelted with rocks that leave cowsh*t stains over your jacket and helmet. They are stupid things and get impaled on the barbs of barbed wire fences as they are flying along.

I was unlucky enough to take a bat (yes as in the fruit bat style thing) to the eye, and eye socket, and the nose...

I was riding along at a slow pace up on a certain Boulevard after dark (sun set quickly) and had my tinted visor flipped up. Wind out the throttle a little on my favourite stretch of 5 corners and see a small object circling in a fair way off - chose to ignore it. Leant in for the next corner and 'wham'... copped bat to the face.

As for the bug bits... hope your eye gets better quickly.

Hit in the face by a bat, quite a feat.

Went to put on my helmet to leave work today and found it was covered with ants! I brushed off all the ones I could find inside and out and didn’t think much of it. Rode away on the bike only to have the ants fly out of all the little vents and all over my face and head, so much biting. Pulled over and spent the next 10 minutes trying to rid myself of the damn things.

Nope, managed to keep her on the straight and narrow (ok, well twisty and narrow) just riding with one eye open and the other streaming. Washed off the speed and pulled over asap only to find 'bat goop' on my helmet. ;)

Koma,

A fruit bat WTF?

Thats the funniest thing I've heard today LOL.

As for the bug, sorry dude, tho not fun, it just doesnt compare.

Anyhow, I swallow bugs all the time in Qld and still leave the visor cracked open or risk overheating or passing out from bus diesel fumes etc...Just wear glasses or sumthin...

ouch. thanks to an alergy to bee stings, if that happened to me my neck would swell up and I'd likely die.

It'd happen even faster and more horribly if it was a wasp.

From the looks of your avatar... a squirrel perhaps?

That just brings on the list of furry critters that have 'attacked'...
Just from the netrider and other groups, i've heard of or seen the following:-
- Kangaroo (Marty's Viffer)
- Lyrebird (close call for SlicR1)
- Wombat (someone on a Gixxer)
