I've got a mate who's selling his 1991 FZR250RR (silly bloke) and I REALLY REALLY REALLY wanna buy it. Was just wondering if there's anything I need to know about fizzer's before buying?

It's pretty good condition, (needs a paint job imho. But that's just me), just out of rego, selling for a grand. I know he's done a bit of work on it, not sure exactly what but I don't think he's added anything new. Prolly just replaced any broken bits.

Sorry if I've started a new thread on one that's prob already there. But any help would be really great, I've been hanging out for a bike for AGES (just got learner's) and I would love a fizzer.

I leave it in your capable hands.

Are you sure it runs ok? A grand is very cheap for an undamaged 91 model - but then maybe you just got lucky?!
If its your mate you'd hope he wouldn't keep anything from you, but for that price I'd be expecting some sort of trouble. Take the bike for a decent ride and see how it goes - ie does it start ok, rev ok, idle ok, any smoke from exhaust etc.?
If it has probelms you may still be able to fix it (or get it fixed) and still end up with a good deal - just depends the state its in.

Well, I know that it runs ....

I took it for a ride ages ago, before he decided to sell, so I wasn't looking at it from a buyer's perspective (ie I just rode it for fun). The only thing I can remember noticing was that it doesn't really go at all until you hit the high rev's. Is this just something you get used to, or can you fix it somehow? I liked his brother's CB250 better, it was more reliable. Don't nobody hurt me!!

And I think he's brought it down that much coz it's got no rego, also prolly coz it looks really shoddy. Just looks that way coz the last paint job he did, it was coloured a really disgusting grey. Might redo the paint though

So it's not all that bad, but I'd have to go give it a proper check over, check tires and engine and lights etc etc. And take it for another test ride!

Have fun with it, if its ****, strip and sell for parts. Espec if the fairings are in good nic.

ehehe. You wanted it before you even asked.

I would have got it. For sure.
Good fairings sell for a total of $1000 (500 for left and right front fairings, 400 for front fairing, 100 for rear fairings...)

Plus, what wrong with *only* having high-end power? What do you consider high-revs? I find mine most responsive between 6-14k rpm. Some don't let the bike even go past 8k rpm because they think that's high!

Get it.

If you never take an FZR above 12k then your not really riding it how it was designed to be ridden. Commuting takes place between 6k & 14k rpm, and the weekend blats shouldn't go below 9k rpm. That's just the way it was meant to be... and when your in that sweet spot you'll sure know it as the tone of the engine i always though changed a little and you'd start noticing the induction noise and the perfect howl of the engine on over-run between 16k down to 12k!

Soooo many great memories with that little 3LN3!
The big Fizzer is a helluva lotta fun, don't get me wrong... but to get it howling i'm already well past loss of license speeds; i was bouncing it off the rev limiter last weekend going through the spur thinking i was back on the little 250!

Dammit.
Dammitdammitdammitdammit.

Found out the other day my mate's sold his fizzer, absolutely OFF HIS HEAD. He sold it for $620.

WHAT'S WRONG WITH HIM?!?!?!

I would have paid a grand for it, but if he was offering 620 ...

Oh well. Too late. He just wouldn't return my calls coz he's a snob. Sorry if you're reading this but I would have appreciated it a lot better!!

Humph. Going to sulk in a corner now. Seems like I'll NEVER get a bike

Sorry to hear it - i know how annoying the 'almost' purchases are.
You'd already psyched yourself into getting it... then pffft... GONE.

Plenty more bikes out there... patience is the name of the game (or unlimited budget... but i'll never have that!)
