hi all, new to the forums.

Never knew there was a site dedicated to the baby fzr, i got one year n a half ago but it went away for the winter and now it needs tax mot and insurance renewal, which at the mo cant afford with paying my car insurance off at the same time!

Mine is a '91 (i think... G reg), black original fairings, very tidy for its age. There no all that common here in england, from reading most the posts your all mainly in australia, thats cool.

anyway yea... Newbie on the forums here hi to all! Oh, one thing the bike does need is a speedo drive, it gave way once while riding, replaced the cable no joy so that was a waste of a tenner, now just need a speedo drive, except cant find any! seen a few for the fzr4, will those fit??? thanks carl

sorry for double post, just have to ask.... from reading more into the forum the prices you say about the fzr's sound reallllllly high! Does anybody know what $3500 is in £GBP? It sounds alot! Im not 100% on what model mine is, but is the exup... with a single headlight, and has chinese\jap symbols on the faring only small, and its mainly black, ill have to get pics..... but that was pretty much mint condition with 40k on the clock and i paid £700.... anybody kno what that is in your $$$??

    hey welcome to the forum!

i can't help you with any of that technical stuff either, but what i do know is that $3500AU is approx £1475British Pound Sterling. Is that GBP? not sure. and £700 is approx $1660AU. If my conversion widget is correct

    good luck!

wow, thats really quite amazing, so the FZR's over in aus realllllllly hold there value, where as over here, even though there extreamly rare, not so expensive. Wonder why that is...

You can replace the speedo drive cable with one from a number of other bikes (not just Yamaha's). If you take the remains of it to a wreckers or even a spare parts dealer and ask for a replacement of the same length or slightly longer then they'll be able to help you out.

Just make sure before you install the new one that you lube it up really well.

It might be supply and demand. FZR and CBR 250 are very popular. It might be the 250 limit imposed on learners and provisional licencee's.

It is strange that one can buy a new Kawasaki GPX250 for $6000 and a couple of years old sell for $4-5K and an 18year old FZR sells for same price.

Oh ok, well then it's a matter of dismantling the drive spline assembly and figuring out exactly which bit is buggered. If it's just the slave drive spline then you should be able to find a Yamaha replacement (not sure if their bike specific but i don't think they are). If it's more than that... well i'd pull it apart and find the damage first.

your allowed to ride 250 on a provisional licence? wow, no over here its 125 at the highest, anything bigger requires a full licence! I used to have an Aprilia RS125... now that was fun

Yep, on a provisional license we're allowed to ride up to a 250 2-strokes in some states (Victoria) in Australia; other states allow up to ~500 4-strokes (NSW) , and some allow you to ride anything you want (QLD)!

That said, the roads in the UK don't really favour learners on powerful bikes. The roads in Australia are big, rough, and goddamn twisty (well the good bits are!). Hence a larger bike tends to cope with the conditions a bit better.

Here in Canberra they set the limit at 150kw/ton so you can get some bikes that you wouldn’t even dream of riding on your L's. When I went for the P's test the first time a guy rocked up on a Harley, no joke. Needless to say he didn’t make it through the first obstacle. You can have a bit of a squiz at the list here.

(The Fizzer weighs in at 138kw/t)
