Okay, I've got to say, I'm really disappointed with this site lately. There's no banter, no new posts, just the usual, 'my bike won't start - why not?' questions.

Maybe it comes down to a lack of social rides, or low numbers or something. But there's really very little incentive to keep checking in here...

Did anyone see this article in the SMH yesterday? I had a bit to say about it on the OCAU site.

http://www.smh.com.au/news/national...rbike-clampdown/2006/02/20/1140283989021.html

It seemed to spark a bit of debate on there, maybe it will stir something up here.

I was pissed off that they publish such a bullshit story, and interview a father when he's clearly emotionally destroyed over losing his son.

also pissed that they published this, calling for more licencing restrictions in NSW. What more can they do? We already have to do two two-day courses, pay big $$$ - if some tool of a 22 y.o. (didn't deserve what he got, but hey, it happens) wants to buy a 1200cc, then it's up to him. Just glad he didn't take out someone else in the process.

It's Darwin's survival of the fittest - some people have the brains to survive, others don't and are swiftly removed from the gene pool.

Whatdya'll reckon?

I agree in part with the story - I mean after "Matthew had appeared in court for a number of incidents, including a 20-minute police chase, about a month after he got his first set of P-plates." These should have been flags that this guy should not be on the road, except for perhaps on a push bike.

I do worry about many people who jump from a low powered bike because they are restricted onto a 180 HP bike and thinking that they can ride it like their old bike. But I do not believe that legislation or regulations should have anything to do with this. Darwinism will take care of those...

I think the article was well written - the title is misleading! The father does not want to see a superbike clampdown (at least not as quoated) and in fact sounds like he owns one himself (his 'big motorcycle').

In summary I do not think there should be a superbike clampdown, but I do wish people would learn to respect bikes for the power they do have. Too many people have come off thinking they know the bike better than they do. Whether this be simply not understanding what they don't know, or simply a big ego (i.e. I can ride this better than anyone). But I don't know how to make that point... although legislation and a 'superbike clampdown' certainly is not the way.

It's quite apparent that this guy brought it on himself.

They make the arguement that it's "too easy" to get a bike licence!? What? How is it easier than getting a car licence? Grr.

Someone kills himself with a bike. Ban bikes. Yeah, great thinking.
Can't we just ban morons? Then we won't need to ban anything else. Why don't we just take the safety labels off everything and let the problem sort itself out?

And yes, this community does tend to stagnate. perhaps a 'forum event' is in order.

Well with all the new Netrider outings and evenings it'd be good to have a little more representation there. I don't think we've got the numbers to organise any serious events just by ourselves - hence why i always end up inviting some Netriders along on the FZR rides i organise.

Incase anyone has Thursday night's free, every second one there is now the 'Young'uns' night... which is essentially the 18-25(or so)'ers get together and do something.

Come on, someone else organise something for once!

Yeah thats all well and good, but I live in NZ so unless people are gonna shout all us Kiwis tickets over the ditch...

To tell the truth, Im going for my learners tomorrow and my bike is bare so I dont feel like I can contribute much, but if you guys want to hear about it then sure I'll tell...

And I think a massive strength of these forums is that the amount of info already here, although that becomes a bit of a curse when to comes to inactivity... people pass through like ghosts

Speaking of which, anyone seen The Shining? flippen freaky, I almost couldnt handle...

When you are a "bike specific forum" than your traffic is going to be very low. Even over at the Brotherhood, things could be better. Over there, we are a Yamaha sportbike forum and as such we don't get a great deal og traffic.

That guy was obviously a fuckwit on the road and didn't deserve to be riding a push bike.
There is no substitute for stupidity and gross negligence, and once we all stop trying to conserve the life of these fuckwits with laws that ruin the enjoyment of life to others that can exercise common sense than NSW will be a better place.

Considering the membership numbers and the range of bikes covered, there seems to be a proportionate more posting here than the BROTHERHOOD although theirs seems to have more general/off topic stuff..

I have always found it interesting and informative here. I have learnt a lot and passed a bit on.

A forum can get too big and time consuming with too much to read, particularly as I like to read all posts.
