2 days ago on my way to work my bike seemed to overheat and switch off, im only assuming it had overheated as the temp gauge was high but not quite at red, after about 15 mins of sitting between 2 lanes on the harbour bridge the bike finally came to life (cooling down possibly).
Anyway that night i tried to check if the fan was working/ flush coolant etc but when i went to start her up she seemed bogged down only was only running at very low revs at full throttle.
Now she wont start at all, i don't think its flooded, ive tried starting it up after 24 hours (incl push start) but still nothing. Now the starter motor sounds a bit strange as it is rolling really fast (faster than normal) without any sign of the engine starting. Any ideas?
    Thanks

Did it have oil in it?
Check the oil and water see if they've mixed.

When switch the bike on, can you hear the fuel pump pumping? If so, does it sound like its pumping fuel. (The sound should drop).

Drain the carbs and see if it helps.

If it was the battery the starter motor usually dies after a few seconds and the head lights fade a lot. Does this happen?

Do you prefer Nike or Adidas?

There is a screw located on the bottom of each carbie bowl. They angle 45 degrees from the horizontal towards the ground. Next to each screw is the drain hole.

The petrol will drain out of these holes as you loosen the screw.

It might be a good idea to place a rag underneath the drain holes as not to spill petrol on the bike.

When it is fully drained, keep the screws loose and turn on the bike (not start). Hopefully all the drain holes will start to leak fuel, therefore it might cancel any problems between the fuel tank and the fuel hose that leads ino the carbs.

Tighten the screws and turn the bike on and try to kick over. For the first few times the fuel pump will sound loud, and it will pump longer than usual. Then when the bowls are full, the pump will sound more muffled and pump for a shorter time.

ok guys, im thinking it may be an eletrical issue now. When i was fiddling round tring to check out the radiator fan i was fidling with one of (what i think is) the ignition coils, part number.,,, 3ln j0258, i unplugged the cables and tested it as in the thermostatic sensor tester walkthrough. However this caused a spark and blew the 15a fuse. Ive replaced that but am wondering if any other damage has been done.
Secondly under the fuel tank there is a loose cable for which i can't find the oter end for, its a white clip with blue and black cables coming from it. I htought this maybe wwas related to the fan as it is the same coloured wires exttending from that. Any ideas anyone? Cheers.

I have been fighting overheating issues on my wife's 2KR for far too long. Try turning the lights off and see if that drops the temp gauge. It does for Angela's ride. I know that there are larger gremlins to deal with in the motor though.

Call the workshop - most will have a transport service either provided or will recommend one.
