I've just stumbled across this website, I wish I'd know about it before. It really would have helped.

I have a 1990/91 FZR 250 (odo 31398km), I think it’s a 2KN but not totally sure. It’s the one with two headlights. I bought the bike back in 1999 and enjoyed riding it around until 2-3 years ago.

Unfortunately, I ended up having an accident on the bike, which broke the two side fairings, damaged the faring that holds the headlights on and scraped a bit here and there.

The bike still ran fine with minimal structural damage that I could see.

I ended up leaving the bike with my sister and moving overseas for 2 years. The Bike has sat in her backyard in Sydney since then. It hasn't been started for 12 months or so, but I believe that the engine would be fine after a tune up and maybe and oil change.

I had ideas of repairing the bike and trying to sell it, but I just don’t have the time or know how to do it.

It’s a great bike, I love every minute of riding it, but the time has come to say goodbye.

I'm thinking of calling a wreckers and selling it to them but that is such a depressing thought.

My question is, what can I do to get rid of the bike? Sell it privately, ebay or a wreckers? Do you guys know of anyone in the Sydney area that would take on such a bike and offer what it was worth.

If anyone is interested, it’s in the Shire area, I can also post before and after photos if you require.

Thanks for reading this - Damian

if you were in Melbourne... there is Yamwreck here I think he offers the best prices for bikes.... Try calling around the Sydney wreckers... but I would rather stick it in the trading post at $500 to $1000 depending on the damage...

Have you tried to restart it?

The wreckers in Sydney rip you off big time. I rang a couple of sydney wreckers for my front mudguard and the prices were between $70-100.

Rang Gold Coast Wreckers and got one for $20.

Moral of story, if it starts it may be worth more a selling time.

I bought my fizzer from the trading post when I lived there (Northern Beaches).

i'd try selling it on e-bay, see what happens (worse case is you don't sell it). If you don't sell it then you are back where you are now, but with more information.

Alternatively - are you planning on getting another bike? If so, consider using yours as a trade in. That is what I did - while I know I didn't get as much money as if I sold privately they gave me a good deal on the bike I was getting. And on the plus side I didn't have to worry about registration / road worthy as I was not selling to someone planning on riding it.

It really doesn't sound like its very banged up. In fact it sounds like cosmetic damage. I'd actually be looking at doing it up, since you can just get new/used cosmetic parts from most bike places.

Perhaps someone on this forum with money could buy it and do it up?

    TBone? Looking for another project?
