Hey Everyone,

Fantastic site! Just bought a used 2KR and slowly going bit by bit, replacing all her fluids and such. So far, she needs a little gas when starting or she dies (normal in a 20 year old bike?).

Anyways, gonna change-out her oil and filter. Every manual I read says to use SAE10W30 SE, but the closest thing I can find in Japan is SAE10W30 MA. JASO MA is suppose to be the highest standard of oil here, which I suppose is great for new bikes, but does anyone know how it'll fare in an old 2KR?

Not sure about oil designations in japan unfortunately. I assume you have a local bike shop or mechanic - i'd go to them and ask what oil to use. Just make sure you don't use oil with friction modifiers in them (if you read the package it shoudl say if it has friction modifiers or other similar additives). These are good for cars, but have a tendency to make bike clutches slip.

It isn't strange to need a little gas when starting. do you use the choke at all?

    And welcome to the site!

    Thanks Boz

Thanks for the reply and welcome. I bought the oil at a dedicated Bike parts shop, so I think it'll be alright in most/all bikes.

But yeah, there are tons of bike shops in Tokyo, so I'll try to corner a mechanic and double-check. Simple yet fantastic advice!

I only use the choke in the morning. Why? Should I not throttle the gas with the choke on?

no - it is fine to twist the throttle a little when starting, choke or not. I just asked about choke because I personally found that I needed the choke in the mornings.

    Hey Jalakoo

See if you can track down an english version of the workshop manual for the FZR250, Or translate the Japanese one.

No one can seem to find one.

    Thanks

    FZR250 Manual

    Hey Biglez,

I just downloaded a 1989 copy of the FZR600 manual. Not sure how well the two match up, but so far so good. If anyone wants it, email me at: jalakoo@yahoo.com and I send it over.

There's one place in Japan to order an old FZR250 manual (Japanese), but it's about $50 USD so I haven't convinced myself to get it yet. Do the FZR400 and 600 manuals just not cut it?

You can download the Japanese manual for the 2KR from around here somewhere, save you the $50US!

    2kr manual

    Hey Koma,

Really? I can't find an FZR250 manual anywhere in the forums. Found 12 pages from an FZR400 manual. Do you know where exactly that 2kr manual is?

    Thanks FZR Dude!

Forgot to say thanks earlier. Funny the file says Chinese, but it's all the original Japanese.

Heh, yeah i chuckled to myself about that aswell... not knowing much Japanese at all (a few years at highschool) but it was easy enough to comprehend the instructions just from the pictures and miniscule understanding i had.
