sounds all too familiar - many car drivers (or any cage) if they don't see you it is your fault because you must have come up on them too quickly.

I have found that, over time and with experience in traffic, you can begin to predict exactly who will not see you and take 'evasive' action before things get hairy. Not always perfect, but in the last year (about 25 000 k's) I have had only one incident (which was with a public bus - didn't expect a radical lane switch from that vehicle - they are usually very predictable)

As some other riders say: Ride like no one can see you.

Yea, I've been changed lanes onto by a van, and a car, both within five minutes! The thing is my bike doesn't relaly have enough power to just accelerate out real quick. Oh well. They have to pay way more for petrol...

The EPA in Victoria have a system where citizens can report litterers - and throwing out cigarette butts is included. I have signed up for this service (for other victorians - see http://www.epa.vic.gov.au/Reporting/litter.asp - they don't have this in NSW) . You do have to register, but it is worthwhile. Now when I see someone who litters I will sometimes pull over, write down vehicle details and location, and once i have net access i will report them. I have reported about half a dozen people in the past 2 years.
