I was riding along chapel st today when my bike was gettign hot from just sitting around in traffic, it went into the redzone then the bike just died. I tried to star it again but it would't even turn over. I tried again 20 mins later but still nothing and then I tried push starting it and got it running but when I turned it off when I got home and tried to start it again it still wouldn't turnover <!-- s --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_sad.gif" alt="" title="Sad" /><!-- s --> . Does anyone know what the problem coul be?
Sounds like a dead battery and went flat coz u were idling too long with the fan running - check battery with a multimeter with the ignition turned on but not running, should be around 12volts or higher.
how long are u guys running your bike until it gets hot?? The longest ive rode my bike is 45 mins and my temp doesnt go above half and my fan doesnt come on.
From my limited experience, the only time the bike overheats is when you arent riding - but the engine is running ie. Sitting in trafic... Soon as you start riding the temp comes down. So the question: how long were you sitting?
Exact same thing happened to me a few weeks ago, was in traffic for maybe 20 mins, i dont think my fan is working though. My bike is still off the road and im in the process of balancing the carbs and cleaning the carbs... they were absolutley filthy, u could get the gunk out with a spoon. If u find out what the issue is then let me know cause i'd really like to know. I checked out the head just in case but all gaskets chains etc are fine. When u start the bike does it sound like its rolling quicker than normal? Give it a compression check possibly.
40 degree day, riding on the open road, and the bike got real hot when I had to slow down for townships. The fan was on and the guage was nearly red. Didn't stall though. I don't think heat would really have anything to do with it. After reading the post properly, I'd bank on it being the battery. Push start works but starter won't.. hmm.
well as i said same thing happened to me, it overheated and broke down, after 20 mins electical start, rode to work, left for the day, started it up to go home. Got home to fix the fan, started it up, sounded like a tractor died and no life since. In my case its not the battery although i cant speak for adnan just yet.
Get a trickle charger for a bike battery from superautocheapbahn and hook it up. If it dies again replace the battery. Get your carbs cleaned and balanced and float heights set. If overheating persists flush the cooling system replace the thermostat and chuck in some new coolant.
I went to a mech. today and got him to charge the battery..he said when fully charged it got about 12.8v. I put the battery in the bike and it started no problems. I think that siiting in traffic, headlights that suck too much energy from the battery and possibly a fan not working contributed to the problem...
