I have stumbled upon a yds 250cc 2 stroke i believe its around the 1971-75 era sitting in my mates shed!! it starts 1st time and lmao it was last registered in 1979 according to a rego thing on the side of it?

IIm selling my across due to financial reasons and need half of the money from the across to assist my family but the other half my mate said i can have this bike for $1,000 Its complete done around 30,000 miles and just needs to be tidied up but comes with everything original. He seems to think they are a rare collectable.

Would i be silly to not buy this for $1,000 and clean it up. It has a key in the front headlight for ignition and lights or something still has rubber knee grips and very very very old tyres on it from the mid 70's.

Let me know anything to watch out for and if i should just leave it or invest some dollars into it.. im thinking cafe racer yds? something like this with shorter lower bars and maybe a thinner seat with ither a white with black stripe on tank guards and what not or black with white stripe? What do yall think? will post pics of actuall bike next week

DOES IT HAVE AN OIL TANK ? if not it is a yd2.if it could be kept original i would as the value lies in originality.yd2 came from the 60,s and i rode one in late 60,s.top speed about 85mph and they sometimes broke the centre maibn bearing and labrynthe oil seal. would still go but the ball bearings rattled. another habit was to break the gear detent stop as the 10 mm bolt was not high tensile.to replace the gearbox has to be split as bolted from the inside.if only running on 1 cylinder the battery had low charge so you do not need to replace either of the coils.

Yes it has an oil tank. It was started and ran very smooth. I was quite suprised considering it hast been regiseterd since 79. We replaced oil and fuel before starting it but strted pretty much right away after doing so.

probly then a yds3, about 1970 which now makes it a classic bike. i would tidy it up and ride as a jewell to be treasured.

keeping it orignal sounds like a good idea if it is the condition you said. Sounds like a great project.
