    Hey, Hows it goin.

Just bought a FZR250. Picked up up at Box Hill with 12 months reg for $3k. has 30,000 on the clock. Fairings in very good condition, goes well. I love it!!

Anyways, I rode it to burwood (I live in Victoria) the other day, its fine in the country, but when you get into the start stop traffic... it gets warm... it scares me a little.

Now, I have skimmed through a few of the forums here, and found this is a common issue... which made me feel a little better.

At one point, the temp was sitting just on the start of the red part... and the thermo fan haddnt kicked in. I would like to put a switch in so I can manually control the fan... not to fussed if it dont go on automatically.

The problem I am having is I cant get the tank cover off. I have removed the two crouch bolts, and the 5 & 7 O'clock tank allan key bolts... and the two lower side bolts.

This all done, I'm able to move the tank up a little but thats about it... it feels like its tied down at the front... but I cant seem to find the bolts. Where are they??

    Thanks.

If it is a 2KR model there are 2 at the front under the RAM air rubbers

Yeah, sorry it is the 2kr... when you say under the RAM air rubbers... does that mean I need to take them off using the screws? (havent got the bike with me at the moment so cant go and have a gander).

It is a common problem not helped by frustration when you can't/won't lane split (or filter in Vic)

Since you have only got the bike, don't mess with it. (unless you really know what you're doing)

Sure enough, your bike will have problems and you don't want to fix something that isn't broken.

Having said that, does the temperature drop back down once you get moving again.

    Are the thermos completely dead?

I do lane split a bit, but a red light still means stop

I'm a computer systems engineer, know lots about electronics...

I havent put a multimeter to it yet, or shorted out the thermo switch to see if the fan comes on because I havent taken the tank cover off yet.

Yeah, it does... and when I'm riding in the country around my area... even when I'm riding fairly aggressivly it stays at about half on the guage... only when I am in traffic where I am stopping every couple of minutes, and not getting up to any significant speed it heats up.. the hottest I have seen it is on the border between OK and red.

I have never seen it do anything, so quite possible. Going to investigate further but need to get tank cover off first! <!-- s:) --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_smile.gif" alt=":)" title="Smile" /><!-- s:) -->
